Multi Cloud Networking—A Must Have
We’re just a few short weeks away from AWS reInvent. The 2024 AWS re:Invent conference is expected to have around 65,000 in-person attendees, plus more virtual attendees.
AWS re:Invent is a learning conference for the cloud computing community, hosted by Amazon Web Services (AWS). The 2024 conference will take place December 2–6 at The Venetian in Las Vegas, Nevada
AWS launched Amazon S3 in the United States on March 14, 2006, then in Europe in November 2007
More than 18 years later, the use of multiple clouds is by far the most common pattern among enterprises, with 89% (73% hybrid cloud, 14% multiple public cloud and 2% multiple private cloud) adopting this strategy in Flexera's 2024 State of the Cloud Report.
Add in the emerging trend of AI workloads which are increasingly becoming hybrid, and the is that managing and supporting multi-cloud is not an easy task.
In 2024, businesses are expected to allocate around 47% of their IT budgets to public cloud services. This is a significant increase from 41% in 2022.
Forward thinking IT executives understand the complex interconnection of the overall cloud ecosystem. Securing every technical interaction is at the top of most IT leaders to do list.
Cloud Connectivity architecture is a foundational element of that overall footprint.
As multi cloud becomes more prevalent, organizations are increasingly looking for ease in connection to major cloud providers including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
But its not just enough to have ease in connection, those connections need to be secure. Enterprises are looking for private, secure, high-speed connectivity between cloud providers
Private, secure, high-speed connectivity between cloud providers is important because it allows for the safe and efficient transfer of sensitive data between different cloud platforms. Key here is risk mitigation around data breaches balanced with minimizing the fast and reliable performance, particularly crucial for businesses handling large volumes of critical information like financial data or medical records. Organizations with strict regulatory compliance mandates need a dedicated controlled path for transmitting data without exposure to vulnerabilities.
In fact, by 2027 Gartner® predicts 30% of enterprises will employ Software Defined Cloud Interconnects, SDCI services to connect to public cloud service providers. This is a threefold increase from less than 10% in 2022

SDCI offers advantages like high performance, predictable connectivity, and security compared to traditional internet-based connections, making it attractive for mission-critical workloads.
The increased adoption is likely driven by the growing trend of enterprises using multiple cloud service providers and needing a reliable way to connect them privately.
Equinix is a long-standing member of the AWS Partner Network (APN), connecting customers to AWS Cloud via the 49 AWS Direct Connect on-ramp sites within their 250+ Equinix IBX® colocation data centers worldwide. Today, Equinix provides more than 25,000 connections through the AWS Direct Connect services for private interconnection to our customers’ on-premises infrastructure and cloud-connected edge.
To meet the growing need of Enterprise connectivity between cloud providers, Equinix launched Fabric Cloud Router in January of this year. Fabric Cloud Router is a multicloud networking solution that is secure and private. It allows customers to scale, collaborate, modernize and transform.
Equinix Fabric Cloud Router is available in the AWS Marketplace, a curated digital catalog, which makes it easy for customers to procure, deploy and manage third-party software solutions and services. Enterprises can easily procure and deploy this multicloud routing service in near real time. Quick back of the napkin math estimates are that there are over 1000 customers today accessing AWS via an Equinix footprint.
In fact, The Equinix Fabric Cloud Router is available in over 55 global markets and now part of the AWS Marketplace, allowing customers to procure right through the portal and those purchases can contribute to their AWS commitment
