My first 45 at MongoDB
As a part of this years New Years resolution I decided that I will be creating more LinkedIn content. Yes, I know, another person creating content as apart of their New Years resolution (shocker). But I told myself let’s try something new and create blog posts, video recordings, and share some incredible stories from the field once a month to keep this resolution aligned with a SMART GOAL! For those unfamiliar a SMART Goal is Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound.
For my first piece of content I am going to talk about my first 45 days at MongoDB. Before I start talking about my early days at MongoDB; let’s talk about my journey.
In my professional career, I have always looked at a few things when choosing a company. 1) Product fit 2) What is the company culture. 3) Will this company make me better.
MongoDB has all 3 of these things and let me explain how they have it.
Product Fit
This is an incredibly easy one because our customers have validated it. MDB has over 31k customers globally and growing, if that’s not validation I don’t know what is.
Company Culture
From the moment I started the interview process I knew this Company was different. While the interview process was similar to some of my prior companies the people leading these “interviews” were quite different.
Each person I interviewed with had not only incredible passion for the company and its overall vision but they had something else…..a passion to get to know me as a person not just as a sales rep. To me this made the interview process incredibly energizing and every conversation led me to wanting to know more about the company and ask around a bit more.
So I did what any other sales rep would do- ask their customers. After speaking with countless customers, two statements became clearly evident.
Will This Company Make me Better
This was bar none the top reasons I decided to come work for MDB.

It was apparent in the interview process they encouraged me to collaborate with current employees and often provided introductions so I could “interview” them about the role and the company.
The interview process was no cake walk, it definitely was a challenging one but it also was a completely open and honest one throughout the whole process. There were numerous conversations to make sure expectations were aligned on both sides to make sure it was a good fit for both of us.
In addiction, I was challenged and not in a normal sense, but strictly out of a personal development as a sales professional. Regardless of the outcome of the interview process, I had already gotten immense value from the people I interviewed with.
Now, onto my first 45 days. Starting just before the holidays was a bit of a whirlwind, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Baptism by fire is often a cliche people use but I would say this on ramping was more of laying the foundation by going deep and wide with an abundance of knowledge transfer.
MDB made it clear they want everyone they bring on board to be successful and it shows in their enablement process of new hires. The last 45 days have been strictly focused on trainings (both self paced and instructor led) that encompassed technology fundamentals, MongoDB products, as well as Command of the message or sales training.
In addition to training I was able to be apart of the final week of the fiscal year and boy was that exciting!
45 days in and you could say I’m excited about my choice with MongoDB and we have just begun.
Congrats to all of my Bootcamp Graduates and lets have a great FY23
Until next month,
