To start 2022, I want to reflect on some of my highlights from 2021 and thank all of my friends, colleagues and collaborators for making it such a productive year.
- To kick off the nature flavour of 2021, the year started with a launch of the Dasgupta Review of Economics of Biodiversity, for which I was part of the peer review group.
- We followed the Dasgupta review, by publishing our Handbook for nature-related financial risks, explaining key concepts and providing a framework for understanding how nature loss can present a material risk to financial firms.
- One highlight of many interesting discussions and panels over the year was on building back better at the EBLC Northern Lights Summit.
- In June the NGFS joint study group on biodiversity and financial stability published a Vision Paper entitled “Biodiversity and financial stability: exploring the case for action.” This was followed in October by an Interim Report on “Biodiversity and financial stability: building the case for action”.
- Having spent the summer working on the use cases for nature-related financial risks, right before COP15 we published a preview of the insights from these use cases, available here.
- And of course COP26 saw a multitude of events and launches across CISL, the summary of which (as well as links to the various recordings) could be found here. My highlights included the launch of Aligning climate finance for an equitable and sustainable net zero future briefing, chairing CISL, Cambridge Zero and Birdlife International UNFCCC side event Building forward better: A blueprint and tools to meet global goals for climate, nature and people, as well as conversations with Bloomberg TV, BBC radio, Sky News, New Scientist, and Nikkei.
Thank you for all your help in making this possible! I wish you all a happy and healthy 2022!
