My interview of the CEO of Empa, a world-renowned research institute for materials science and technology
For the Swiss business media L’AGEFI, I interviewed Prof. Dr. Gian-Luca Bona, CEO of Empa.
Established in 1880 and a member of the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology (ETH) Domain, Empa is headquartered in Zurich and employs 1,000-odd scientists, engineers, technicians and general staff.
Excerpts:
- The Empa brand is not known in the general public, especially outside Switzerland. Nevertheless, our brand is very famous in our fields of activities in Switzerland and even worldwide, among other things because 60 percent of our researchers are foreigners.
- We receive research mandates from around the world, including from Swiss and foreign courts that appreciate our skills and our independence.
- For example, we worked for Toyota and were able to solve in six months one of their most critical problems related failures of their silicon chips.
- Another example: we are responsible for determining the causes of the collapse of the Morandi bridge in Genoa, Italy.
The interview will be published tomorrow (pages 1 and 5) but is already available online: Link (full access after watching a 15-second video ad).
