My interview in Economic Daily, on the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China
On the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of The People's Republic of China, I was interviewed by several leading Chinese media including the “Economy Daily” (both the newspaper and the mobile app).
In a nutshell, I made the following points:
- I am proud that China and Switzerland manage to maintain exceptionally good relationships at all levels. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, I wish – and I have no doubt -- that China will continue progressing and reach its social and economic development goals. I also wish that some Western outlets make more efforts to understand China before making up their minds.
- My first trip in China was in the early nineties; at that time, I was working for China Schindler Elevator, the first industrial joint venture in China. Like many Westerners, I was fascinated by China, by its culture, people and its many historical inventions.
- Subsequently, like everybody, I have been completely impressed by the speed of development of China in particular because many Westerners expected that China would grow very slowly.
- I have been travelling every year in China except during a four-year period, just before the Olympics in Beijing. After four years of absence, when I returned to Beijing, I could not recognize anything and was impressed by the unbelievable development of the capital.
