My love letter to the Stroud Family Super Bowl Party

My love letter to the Stroud Family Super Bowl Party

When my best friend, Johnna Stroud , and I separated to attend different colleges, it became a constant conversation of “When are you free?” and figuring out which of us had time to drive to the other’s college town. However, a few times a year we know we will always see each other, one of them being Super Bowl Sunday. Since we became friends in high school I can remember attending the Stroud Family Super Bowl party each year. Throughout my four years at college, the event has always been definite in my plans and a comfort knowing I would be able to spend time with her.

Mrs. Dawn always takes her parties seriously, especially her Super Bowl Party. It’s always fun to walk in and see all of her decorations and set-up for the year. Each year consists of everyone's favorite dips, finger foods, and football-themed games. Meatballs are a must as well as my favorite, the brownie batter dessert dip. Another constant will always be the chicken wing debacles. Two years ago they were too salty, last year was a makeshift cook-off except they were all mixed up in transit, and this year it was their first attempt at frying (which was a success after some slight complication). This year Johnna and I were in charge of the charcuterie board and executing Mrs. Dawn’s vision. I will admit I took an assistant role in the process but I was pleasantly surprised with our creation. This was the first time we were given real responsibilities so maybe we are getting a little old.

The Super Bowl party isn’t just a fun day to celebrate for me, it marks a constant and a comfort in my life. It’s something I can always rely on, during a time in my life when so much is changing. It’s a time when I can feel relaxed and spend time with some of my favorite people. I’m grateful to have this tradition in my life and the time to spend with people I love. This Super Bowl Party was extra special considering post-graduation, we finally get to become roommates and not have the distance between us anymore. So here’s to many more years of Stroud Family Super Bowl parties and all the memories to come in between!
