My summary for AWS re:Invent -2020 - Werner Vogels Keynote - 15th Dec.

We still in the 3rd excitement week of re:Invent and last but not least Dr. Werner Keynote. The keynote was filmed in an old Sugar factory outside Amsterdam and started with 2 interesting case studies about Ava-women and Brainly. The keynote has Five  announcements of AWS Cloudshell ,AWS Fault Injection Simulator, of Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus (AMP) , Amazon Managed Service for Grafana (AMG) and AWS Distro for Opentelemetry. And closed the session talking about Amazon Quantum Solutions Lab.

Below is my summary, Go Build and it’s always Day one :-)

  1. Lea von Bidder is Co-founder and CEO at Ava-women, they created a bracelet and mobile fertility app for women, and every day they collect 3 million data points from their customers. Using the Fertility tracker more than 40,000 couples get pregnant. Also this year they took advantage of their cloud platform to collect and analyze customer data to provide a COVID-19 early detection algorithm that works for everyone.

 2- Brainly is a Polish education technology company based in Poland. They provide a peer-to-peer learning platform for students, parents, and teachers to ask and answer homework questions. After the pandemic, they achieve in 4 months the growth of 12 months. They grow from 50 million users by end of 2019 to 250 million users by May 2020.

3-   Announcement !!! AWS Cloudshell is a browser-based shell that gives you command-line access (CLI)  to your AWS resources in the selected AWS region. AWS CloudShell comes pre-installed with popular tools for resource management and creation. You have the same credentials as you used to log in to the console.

a.    Pre-installed tools:- AWS CLI, Python, Node.js and more

b.    Storage included 1 GB of storage free per AWS region

c.    Saved files and settings Files saved in your home directory are available in future sessions for the same AWS region.

4-   Powering .NET 5 with AWS Graviton2: Benchmarks.

5-   Werner just learned Rust .. still day one !!! inspiring us to keep learning

 6- Nicole Yip Engineering Manager at the LEGO Group, talked about the lesson learned from the last failure they had in 2017. In early 2018 they decided to move from on-premises to cloud and move from monolithic application to microservice & serverless and more AWS managed service. And lessons learned are automation is a key, build pipelines and make application engineer be Deveops engineer and build serverless operations& standards. And looking to implement chaos engineering. LEGO means Play Well  :-) !!!!!

6-   Then Zoom case study where they had 30x growth after the pandemic, check  Zoom has selected AWS as its preferred cloud provider.

7-   VPC Reachability Analyzer which is recently launched, which is a network diagnostics tool that troubleshoots reachability between two endpoints in a VPC, or within multiple VPCs.

8-   Zelkova uses automated reasoning to analyse policies and the future consequences of policies.

9-   Announcement !!! AWS Fault Injection Simulator is fully managed chaos engineering service.

10- Announcement !!!: Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus (AMP)  monitor containerised applications at scale.

11- Announcement !!!:  Amazon Managed Service for Grafana (AMG). Powerful, interactive data visualisations for builders, operators, and business leaders.

12- Quantum computing will change science. Learn more in  Amazon Quantum Solutions Lab.
