After spending time at GITEX Global 2024 and Expand North Star in Dubai last week, one thing is clear: the future of tech and AI is here, and it’s moving fast. The sheer energy, innovation, and optimism at these events were incredible. Seeing thousands of startups, founders, and established companies all coming together to solve real-world problems was inspiring. Here are my top 10 predictions for where tech and AI are headed, and how they’re going to reshape the world in very tangible ways:
- AI-Powered Healthcare AI is already changing healthcare, and we’re just getting started. Take the AI-driven diagnostics tool I saw in action at a demo—it’s able to detect early signs of lung cancer with better accuracy than trained specialists. This isn’t theory; this is happening. AI’s potential to personalize treatment, reduce costs, and improve outcomes will redefine how we approach healthcare globally. Hospitals are starting to integrate AI to support clinicians in making faster, more accurate decisions that save lives.
- Smart Cities Will Be Our New Reality We’ve been hearing about smart cities for years, but now they’re actually becoming a reality. Just look at what’s happening in places like Singapore and Copenhagen, where entire urban infrastructures are being optimized by AI. Traffic, energy use, even waste management—all connected, all data-driven. The tech behind this isn’t just cool; it’s improving quality of life. Soon, it won’t just be futuristic cities leading the charge; we’ll see this technology spread globally as cities strive to become more efficient and sustainable.
- Proactive Cybersecurity Will Be the Standard Cyber threats are on the rise, and businesses can no longer afford to be reactive. I recently spoke to a CEO who mentioned how AI tools are now able to predict potential cyberattacks before they happen, identifying vulnerabilities weeks or months in advance. This proactive approach is becoming the gold standard. With cybercrime projected to hit $10.5 trillion in damages annually by 2025, this shift in security posture will be a critical evolution for companies of all sizes
- Grid-V and the Energy Revolution Power outages and energy inefficiencies are massive problems, but AI is starting to change that. I recently learned about Grid-V technology, which allows real-time visualization and optimization of power grids. The goal here is to make energy systems smarter, more secure, and more resilient to outages. Imagine a grid that knows how to reroute energy during peak hours or when there’s a fault, minimizing downtime. This tech is especially crucial as we integrate more renewable energy sources into our grids.
- Industrial Digitalization Is Reshaping Manufacturing During a factory visit last year, I watched AI-powered robots work seamlessly with human workers to streamline production. This wasn’t a flashy presentation—it was real, on-the-ground progress in industrial digitalization. Sensors and AI are optimizing everything from supply chains to machine maintenance, predicting issues before they lead to breakdowns. The efficiency gains here are staggering, and the environmental impact—through reduced waste and energy use—could be transformative.
- AI Will Make Customer Experience Hyper-Personalized We’ve all had frustrating customer service experiences, but AI is about to change that. I was recently testing a platform that used AI to predict my preferences based on past interactions and behavior. It knew what I wanted before I did. It’s not just about personalization—it’s about anticipating needs in a way that makes every customer feel seen and valued. This is already being adopted by big brands, and I expect this level of personalization to become the norm in the next few years.
- Flying Cars Will Become Mainstream Transportation I know it sounds far-fetched, but flying cars are closer than you think. Companies like Uber (Joby Aviation), Boeing, and even Tesla are testing autonomous aerial vehicles that could become part of urban transportation within the next decade. I had the chance to see a prototype recently—it’s not just a concept anymore. While regulatory challenges remain, the technology is here, and in a few years, we could be seeing these vehicles transporting goods, people, and even medical supplies over congested urban areas.
- Semiconductor Supercomputing Will Unlock New AI Capabilities One of the biggest hurdles in AI development is computing power, but that’s changing fast. I was recently in a discussion with some leading minds in semiconductor technology, and it’s clear that the next generation of chips will unlock AI’s true potential. Europe is especially pushing for technological sovereignty in this space, with companies like SiPearl leading the way in supercomputing
- AI Ethics and Governance Will Define How We Use This Tech I’ve been in too many discussions where the question “Just because we can, should we?” has been raised. This isn’t just philosophical anymore; it’s practical. As AI becomes more integrated into our lives, ethical guidelines will be key. Transparency in AI’s decision-making processes and ensuring fairness in its applications—especially in sensitive areas like criminal justice and hiring—will be critical. Companies that don’t prioritize this will face real consequences, both legally and in public trust.
- Startups Will Lead the Way in Tech-Driven Social Change One of the most inspiring things I saw at Expand North Star was the number of startups focused on tech-for-good initiatives. These aren’t just companies chasing profits—they’re tackling big issues like climate change, healthcare inequality, and education. I spoke to one founder who’s building an AI platform to improve access to clean water in developing nations. It’s not just about building cool tech—it’s about using it to solve the world’s biggest challenges, and I believe these companies are going to redefine what success looks like.
These are exciting times, and I’m grateful to be part of the conversation here in Dubai. The future is bold, and we’re just getting started.
