My Year Wrapped: Wins You Can Achieve Too

My Year Wrapped: Wins You Can Achieve Too

What does your year look like “wrapped”?

A few weeks ago I got my Spotify Wrapped for 2024. This musical “year in review” playlist of my most listened-to songs wasn’t particularly inspirational - mostly background jazz I listened to while doing work.

But it made me think about the rest of my life … beyond my music choices.

What would that look like “wrapped”?

  • What were your “wins” or achievements you’re proud of?
  • What did you learn and how have you grown
  • What themes emerged about the way you lived your life this year that would be useful for making next year even better?

For me, this year has been about working on my inner game...

… making seemingly small adjustments that have made a big difference in the way I feel and how often I can show up as my best self.

When it comes to showing up at my best, I’ve discovered that what motivates me the most is being there for people I care about.

That means being the best possible leader I can be for my team. Being present and supportive for my family. And delivering value for my clients and readers (yes, you!).

The progress I’ve made can be “wrapped” up in these three foundational achievements.

Achievement #1: regularly got eight hours of sleep a night.

This is a big one for me because it required changing two behaviors.

Instead of watching a Netflix episode as I brushed my teeth at night and then getting sucked into staying up to watch the next episode in bed, I read a book.

Rather than work until 10pm and feel too wound-up to go to bed until midnight, I called a “pencils down” at 8pm so I could go to bed earlier and get up by 7am while still getting eight hours of sleep.

These seemingly simple steps were hard to start.

But once I got going, I found I loved having my mornings back - my favorite time of day.

Achievement #2: focused on the things that matter in my business.

As someone who’s easily distracted by new opportunities and struggles with saying ‘no’, focusing on just a few things was challenging.

But as a leader, my tendency to chase after “shiny objects” wreaked havoc with my team.

Just as they were making progress on last month’s important projects, I’d throw in something new that moved them in a different direction.

Not only was I spreading myself too thin, the team was scattering its attention and unsure of our priorities.

We were splashing around in the pool but not getting to the other side.

This year was different because we stayed focused on two major projects: creating the 2.0 version of our Career Mastery membership, and writing my upcoming book.

Stay tuned on both as we’ll be unveiling them in the new year!

Achievement #3: wasted less time worrying and ruminating.

I’ve always been a worrier and can ruminate on negative possibilities with the best of them.

But 95% of the things I’ve worried about over the years have not come to pass. In fact, I can’t even remember what I was worried about - I just know the feeling of worry.

I don’t want to be that person in 10 year’s time still “worrying on top of nothing” as my mother says.

This is the hardest change to make.

But this year I finally made a big dent in that worry habit!

I’m still a work in progress, but all the work I’ve been doing on myself is paying off. (If you’re interested in knowing how I’ve done this, let me know.)

How about you - what does your year “wrapped” look like?

Whether you think of your year in terms of achievements, wins or growth, it doesn't have to be tangible or measured in numbers.

And don’t get caught up in whether you’ll impress anyone else. There are no “right answers”.

It’s your life and your year.

Whatever your version of the year “wrapped” looks like, I’d love to hear about it.

Leave a comment and let me know.

Whether this year has been amazing or challenging, remember to keep going. I have a feeling that the best is yet to come.
