Navigating the Shutdown and Reopening
There is no question that industries and the economy as a whole have been hit hard by the pandemic.
Healthcare, food, automotive, the list goes on and on.
I spoke with a mentor of mine last night who owns a $70 million dollar restaurant/food business in Michigan and has been in business 38 years.
He provided me with his thoughts on where they are as a business now and how they have been adapting.
There was one powerful statement that I feel is exceptionally crucial not only for food but for us in healthcare at this time.
"In our 38 years at Zingerman’s we have worked through massive inflation, the tragic upheaval of 9/11, the instability of the recession of 2009, . . . In all of those cases, looking back, I can see that we survived—through the fear and uncertainty—by staying true to our values, taking good care of our customers, communicating caringly with our
crew, staying in touch with vendors, maintain quality. We continued to talk things through collaboratively, to work cooperatively, to stay as grounded and centred as we could under the circumstances."
Despite operating at 3rd of sales and furloughing 300 staff, Ari focuses on what he can control and the core values of why the business was a success in the first place...A great reminder to us all.
Ari is going to be live tomorrow answering Q&A's on the "21 HATS - NAVIGATING THE SHUT DOWN AND THE REOPENING" webinar and you can join for free and get insight from one of the industry great leaders.
It would be a great investment in time and I will see you there.
