NCBA Leading the Way, Where Every Day is Earth Day
In modern times, we are increasingly disconnected from nature due to urbanization, technological advancements, and indoor lifestyles. This has led to an attitude of dominion over the Earth and its resources, resulting in a sense of entitlement to exploit natural resources without considering the impact on ecosystems or our future generations. However, we have a responsibility to both ourselves and future generations to safeguard the Earth, ensuring that we leave behind a sustainable world that benefits everyone.
In this regard, 22nd April is a special day globally, recognized as the World Earth Day, providing an opportunity for individuals, communities, and organizations, to create awareness and participate in activities aimed at protecting the environment, such as tree planting. Even though participating in World Earth Day activities is important, it is vital for us to integrate environmental sustainability into our core values and operations, beyond just one day of the year.
It's noteworthy that NCBA Group has distinguished itself as an organization committed to incorporating environmental conservation into its organizational culture on an ongoing basis. NCBA Group has not only demonstrated leadership in corporate sustainability but has also set a positive example for other companies, as well as individuals to follow.
NCBA Group is dedicated to forging a sustainable future through a series of initiatives including pledging to grow 10 million trees by 2030, mobilizing KES 30 billion for green financing, and committing to the elimination of single-use plastics while ensuring all waste is recycled by 2030.

Additionally, the organization is driving innovative finance solutions to address climate change, aiming to slash direct emissions by 50% by 2030, and championing sustainable transportation through electric vehicle initiatives.
NCBA Group’s intentions are matched with actions, and we celebrate seeing the strides the institution has made so far towards sustainability, boasting a commendable 34% recycled waste at their core locations and achieving an impressive 76.3% reduction in plastic usage in their gifting practices.
It is also worth mentioning that in February 2024, NCBA Group sponsored the first Wangari Maathai Marathon with a contribution of KES 2 million, honoring the legacy of the esteemed environmentalist, Professor Wangari Maathai. This sponsorship reflects NCBA Group's recognition of Wangari Maathai's tireless efforts to advocate for environmental preservation, and the commitment of the Group to carry on with her selfless and exemplary work.
These continuous sustainability efforts are proof enough that for NCBA Group, every day of the year is World Earth Day, not just 22nd April.
