Net zero check in: how architects and designers respond to the challenge

This month’s update from Axalta takes a look at how architects and designers around the world are responding to the net zero challenge. From the metrics of sustainability to design innovation and new biomaterials, we shine a light on some of the latest thinking in sustainable design and construction.

Learning from LEED

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – or LEED® as it’s usually known – is the most widely used green building metric in the world. We talk to architects in Spain, the UK and the Middle East to find out how the measurement system is informing new design approaches. To learn more about LEED metrics and how powder coatings contribute to certification, sign up for our on-demand seminar here.

The future is bio-based

With VOC content at virtually zero, powder coatings are already a sustainable choice – but our current research and development in bio-based coatings is pushing at new frontiers. Following Axalta’s recent certification by the sustainability scheme ISCC plus, we’re excited to be launching the first bio-based product range in Europe in 2024.

Driven by the twin sustainability goals of further minimising environmental impact and ensuring even greater durability and longevity, Axalta’s innovations in bio-resins represent a significant step forward – find out more here.

World cities project focus

How are sustainable futures shaping up in the cities of Europe and the Middle East? We travel to Barcelona to chat to Juan Velasco of GCA Architects about Smart22@ – an ambitious sustainable urban reinvention for the post-industrial era. Meanwhile our ‘Letter from Dubai’ takes a look at three of the ways the city is blazing a trail in ingenious design.
