New employer payroll reporting requirements in Ireland are coming in January 2024

New legislation around the disclosure of specific expenses and benefits made to employees and directors is coming into effect from January in Ireland and global employers need to be aware of their responsibilities when it comes to reporting and submitting details of these expenses and benefits.

It once again brings to mind the importance of an innovative global payroll technology stack that features detailed and comprehensive multicountry reporting tools. The kind of tools that can drill down into specific pay elements such as benefits, expenses, bonus payments and country specific nuances.

Remote working allowance, travel and subsistence expenses along with small benefit exemptions are some of the new mandatory employer reporting requirements. Under the new rules which are due to come into force in from January 1, 2024, employers making any of the above payments/allowances to their employees are obligated to give advance notice to the Irish Revenue authorities that they will be making such payments.

Tax authorities in Ireland need to be notified by employers who plan to include benefits and expenses such as these and employers will need to ensure that any payroll details submitted to the revenue cover these.  Failure to do so might well see them in breach of compliance when it comes to payroll reporting.

Meeting your payroll reporting obligations

Is your current payroll technology stack capable of delivering the data and reports you need for this mandatory requirement? If not, then you will need to consider a digital upgrade of your global payroll reporting capabilities.

The good news is that this pay element information is available on the global payroll control platform here at Payslip.
