New Grade Magnesium Hydroxide B3SL for White Cable Compound

Earlier this year, we received an inquiry from a customer who want to produce a white color PVC compound, but the whiteness of the commonly used Brucite could not meet the requirement, so we decide to develop a new grade Brucite for this kind of application. And after several months of test and development, we made it and now this new product is in mass production already.

This passage is to introduce you to this grade of magnesium hydroxide for white PVC compound ---B3SL(whiteness >96%). Before we start, let’s first go over the production process of Brucite powder. So what is the difference between B3SL and normal Brucite? Is it just the differences of whiteness? The answer is NO, the whiteness is one advantage of B3SL, besides that, we also did the below improvement:

1. Particle sizes distribution

Compared with normal Brucite powder, B3SL has a relatively narrow particle sizes distribution, you can refer to below particle size distribution report for detail (particle size is tested by BT-9300S Laser particle size distribution meter) :

2. Impact on mechanical properties

In order to study the performance of B3SL, we compared it with commonly used B3.5 in the below PVC-based formula, the result shows that in the same formula, the formula with B3SL is better in MFI, LOI, tensile strength, and elongation at break performance. You can refer to below test data for more detail.

3. Coating efficiency

The surface modification of normal Brucite powder is to add a coating agent during the milling process, but for new grade B3SL, it is processed with multiple coating techniques to make sure the agent is evenly coated on the surface of the powder. And the coating agent of B3SL is a silane and special dispersing agent, which also guarantees it can better disperse in the formula.
