PHI’s Dr. Cohn Featured in New Film Exploring DDT's Health & Enviro Impacts

Dr. Barbara Cohn, director of PHI’s Child Health and Development Studies, is featured in a new documentary that delves into the short- and long-term health and environmental impacts of DDT. Out of Plain Sight follows LA Times environmental journalist and Pulitzer Prize-finalist Roseanna Xia, who in 2020 broke the story that as many as half a million DDT barrels had been quietly dumped into the ocean decades ago, just off the coast of LA. In the film, Dr. Cohn underscores the alarming reality that chemicals like DDT will stay in our environment for the long-term, posing health threats to humans and entire ecosystems for generations to come. "This is another interpretation of what 'forever chemical' means, right?" says Dr. Cohn. "When people use that term, they often think that forever means that it just sits in the environment and it never goes away. Well, the impact may be forever too."

The film screens tonight in New York City at 9 pm at the Village East Cinemas by Angelika, and is available to watch virtually on-demand from Nov. 17 to Dec. 1. See the trailer, get tickets & learn more →
