New learning tricks are here for you to try
Do you sometimes think your brain wants you to slow down and stop shoving so much information in it?
Learning a lot of information can be overwhelming for our brains, especially if we try to learn quickly. A partial reason for that is simple – in most cases, our brains are already overwhelmed with the flood of information we get from all the sources around us.
I like to share tricks and tips that helped me in the learning process, so today I have a new batch for you that can be useful for learning German, and general learning.
1. Write it!
We all gradually switched from writing manually to typing on our phones, laptops, and tablets, but writing by hand has many benefits. Using pen and paper allows you to learn and understand the learning material better because it requires active listening. Taking notes by hand rather than on a computer also means that you are thinking about the material and formulating your sentence, as opposed to just copying it.
So handwritten notes are not faster, but they are better for your learning process.
2. Be a teacher!
Even if you don’t see yourself as an educator, trying to explain to somebody what you’ve learned can help you to easily put it into words. Explaining to your friends or family the material you learned is much more effective than checking your knowledge with a test. Saying out loud what you know reassures your knowledge and makes it easier to see if there is any hole in it.
Just pretending to teach someone works as well.

3. Taking breaks is productive!
It doesn’t matter how motivated we are, we just can’t learn with the same capacity all the time. If you notice that you’ve zoned out and your thoughts are wandering, this is a good time to take a break. It allows your mind to refresh and prepare for the new learning session.
In the long run, it is much more effective than forcing yourself to learn for hours without a break.
4. Shut down your brain!
What we do to our smartphones when they are lagging is called restarting. For our brains, that is sleep or just a quick nap. Shutting down your brain allows the material you’ve learned to be remembered.
Sleeping is a crucial part of the learning process and it is proven to shorten the time to master the material you’re learning.
