A new route to board membership @ QMU

It’s not often I write on LinkedIn (I must get better at this).

However, it’s also not very often our university gives graduates an opportunity like GIVE @ Queen Margaret University .

I am sure there are many alumni like me who are keen to offer their time to organisations as a board member. I have applied for a few board positions (not at QMU) and have been met with ‘lack of experience’ as a reason for not being selected. It’s this catch-22 when you need experience, but haven’t any opportunities to gain this experience.

I am delighted to say that this is where GIVE comes in. GIVE offers QMU alumni without board experience formal training and mentoring, along with the opportunity to witness the work of QMU’s governing body (the University Court) in action. It is really a pathway into full membership of the University Court.

The University is currently accepting applications from alumni interested in participating in the scheme in the 24/25 academic year, with 1 July the closing date.  You can find out more on our website.

If you are interested in GIVE, or even if you just want to hear a bit more – get in touch! tkelly@qmu.ac.uk or drop me a direct message.

What an inspiring initiative at QMU! True success comes from investing in lifelong learning. - Aristotle reminds us: the roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet 🌟
