News Round-up: The biggest European ETF regulatory shifts in 2024
The European regulatory landscape has been subject to regular tweaks across 2024. Some headline changes include the EU confirming it would establish a consolidated tape in June 2025, the CBI opening the door for more asset managers to enter European ETFs by aligning its share class naming convention with Luxembourg’s and crypto ETNs given the green light for LSE listing. Elsewhere, BlackRock is set to extend its ‘build ETFs’ range in Europe with a Nasdaq 100 strategy excluding the top 30 names. The exclusions will mean that the ‘magnificent seven’ mega cap stocks are excluded from the basket. It builds on the recent launch of the iShares S&P 500 Top 20 UCITS ETF (SP20), capturing the top 20 holdings of the popular index. Read the full story here.
Finally, product specialists at Vanguard have said there has been a “tone change” since Salim Ramji joined Vanguard as CEO in July. Ramji joins from BlackRock, which is known for prolific product rollouts, with the Vanguard recently breaking its two-and-a-half-year launch hiatus with the upcoming debut of three fixed income strategies.
