Newsletter # 32 - Hidden Assumptions

Let's start slow...


Most businesses operate on hidden assumptions. For instance, any company that builds “products” simply assumes that the product will be used in Earth gravity.

Assumption 1: Gravity = 1.0 

This came into clear focus when the International Space Station first attempted to put a 3D printer in use. The design shook because the printer was ‘designed to be used in gravity’ and the tolerances were not tight enough to hold everything ‘in place’.

Another hidden assumption that PROFITABILITY comes MOSTLY with STABILITY. It is the rare company which can LEGALLY be profitable in times of Chaos.

 

The Ancient Greeks had a saying: “May you live in interesting times.

 

This is, as many philosophers have pointed out, was NOT a ‘good wish’.

But it DOES happen to be where we find ourselves at this time.

Another relevant quote from the realm of Buddhism would be: “Even after you achieve Enlightenment, there is still laundry to be done.


How do we already have this experience and/or knowledge?

 

Another hidden assumption that many bigger companies rely on to survive is: “The public has a short, (and MUCH SHORTER after Social Media!,) ‘attention span’, and will quickly ‘forget’ about anything we do to them.


How many of you have already forgotten the multi-national CEOs bragging about ‘raising prices until they stop buying’ (paraphrased)?

They also operate on the assumption that they CAN, and therefore they should monetarily “For The Bottom Line” – TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IN EVERY WAY THEY WILL ACCEPT – their employees. (The MATH PROVES 100% of the time this to be the MOST PROFITABLE path.)To those readers thinking, “Ah I get it now – angry old man rant” – I tell you “Welcome First Time Reader.”

So let’s list out our four examples:


ASSUMPTION 1: Gravity = 1

ASSUMPTION 2: There will be STABILITY regarding the ‘ground’ their business is built on. (See below)

ASSUMPTION 3: The “Public” has short term memory ONLY.

 ASSUMPTION 4: It is PROFITABLE to abuse and take advantage of your employees.

 

So we can all look around and see what the ‘current plan’ has come to globally with these Assumptions. How do we turn it around? By looking through several Perspectives…. with a Leap.


How can I apply this knowledge?

 

 

How can we twist Assumption 1 to become more profitable AND Scalable WITHOUT major re-investment ‘down the line’?

- EXAMPLE: What is the cost difference to manufacturing a ‘printer’ say at the ISS tolerances INSTEAD of the ‘normal’ ones we all know? Now that you already have the NEW DATA tolerances, couldn’t we ALL enjoy better printers? (Substitute “printers” with any physical product for another valid example.)

This would allow humanity to buy a printer on Earth and use it at “Home” on their spaceship, Because “Earth Prices and Products” are so well known in the Solar System. (CROSS “Long-Term Planning”, AK-47 vs. M-16 manufacturing specs and processes for tolerance- Sub CROSS profitability/usage/spread globally/reliability/long-term financial forensic analysis of TRUE ROI.)If everything was produced to the same standard, efficiency of scale and manufacturing processes kicks in – SAVING THE MAXIMUM POSSIBLE.

Hence, leading to profit set by customer demand which with Today’s DATA we can “PREDICT” with near 100% accuracy IF they have an open Social Media account….

ASSESSMENT: MORE PROFITABLE to only manufacture a limited number of “printers”, especially if R&D is covered by the "Customer", in this case the International Space Station thru NASA's budget.

Assumption 2; “At least NOW we ALL know WHICH path we are on, going into the FUTURE”. But I think True Stability is holding it's breath till the end of January 2025.

So let's move carefully, we don't want to be another Thomas Midgley.

What if we used the last two Assumptions as our business differentiators?


ASSUMPTION 3: The “Public” has short term memory ONLY.

ASSUMPTION 4: It is PROFITABLE to abuse and take advantage of your employees.


Reward longer-term memories by acting CONSISTENTLY with your customers and employees in ways that THEY appreciate, for example.


What Hidden Assumptions is YOUR BUSINESS built on?

A large portion of South America and other parts of the world built their business on the Hidden Assumption that Facebook and WhatsApp will continue the way they are...... For instance.




On a personal note, try this:

Next time you are on the toilet for a bit, put your phone down and try this...


Take three breaths and focus on how they "feel".

Now you are going to take three DEEP breathes. Feel the air moving your chest and ribs and lungs. Feel the air flowing out. Focus on this for each breathe. How are they different then the first 3 breaths?

This is YOU.

Pretend for a moment that you KNOW for certain, that when YOU walk out of that bathroom door, you will be walking into a "Magic Workshop", where you will be able to "Build" anything from cupcakes to solar systems.


WHAT DO * YOU * WANT to build?


That is what only YOU will ever be able to give humanity.
