Nothing Like Cypher

Nothing Like Cypher

The seventh edition of Cypher 2023 was nothing short of spectacular. The three-day AI conference held last week at the Hilton Convention Center, Bengaluru, concluded successfully. With over 1700 participants and 800 companies in attendance, this year's event has been the largest ever.

Most events today happen in silos, with brands showcasing their latest innovation, products and services to their customers. And the other so-called popular tech conferences that most entrepreneurs flock to are mostly basic and promotional.

But, Cypher 2023 was all about quality, scale, and tailored content — a well-rounded experience. Most importantly, it was about bringing together like-minded brilliant folks and companies under one roof, promoting collaboration, co-creation and community in the AI and analytics landscape, alongside driving meaningful and deep conversations in the technology landscape that add real value in their future endeavours, initiatives, and projects, globally.

“This has been fantastic,” said Katie Stein, the chief strategy officer and global business leader of the enterprise services and analytics businesses at Genpact, who arrived on the second day of Cypher 2023, all the way from the US.

She noted that a lot of leading brands drove the conversations here, citing brands like SHELL, Genpact, Fractal, Deloitte and other sponsors. She also said that the topics were far-reaching, yet relevant to what’s happening in the industry, currently. “The energy and enthusiasm is contagious,” she added.

Kartik Ranganath, the general manager of Business IT at SHELL R&D, said there are so many conversations around AI, particularly generative AI. “This is a fantastic learning event. Not just in one sector, but across industries,” he added, pointing at the tech-savvy people in India, and how Cypher 2023 is bringing them together.

HAL’s head of projects, Himagiri Gedela, was thrilled to be at Cypher 2023. “As I look around, [I see that] every little detail has been taken care of. I see that even AIM has been using AI for its apps,” he added, speaking about the face-recognition system we had integrated into our app to help the audience get their candid photos directly into their registered WhatsApp numbers.

Art took centre stage at Cypher 2023 with AI artists like Sneha Chakraborty, Gokul Pillai, Vimal Chandran and Tapan Aslot, showcasing their brilliant artworks. “The current AI systems, especially language models and diffusion models, which are used for visual arts are perfectly suited to creative pursuits,” said Sentience Institute’s co-founder Jacy Reese Anthis, an esteemed Cypher speaker, who is currently studying the evolution of human-computer interactions, and how it is going to shape our reality in the coming years.

“Ultimately, the world is getting really weird. It’s already getting weird with ChatGPT. And it's only going to get stranger,” said Anthis, throwing light on AI safety and robustness of building such AI systems.

“Whatever technical conferences I have attended so far, it [Cypher] is much more than that…,” said ISRO scientist Radha Krishna Kavuluru, excited that he got to meet many technical folks, who are actually working on AI innovations, alongside leaders who understand the market.

Congratulations to all the winners of the Minsky Award for Excellence in AI 2023, for their exemplary work in the field of AI and analytics

.

AIM sincerely thanks all of you for your contributions to this resounding success and for playing a crucial role in shaping a brighter global future for AI. This would not have been possible without our incredible team, and their dedication, not just during the three days of the event, but in the months leading up to it. This is what makes Cypher a success – year after year.

See you all next year! 😀✨

General Purpose vs Humanoid Robots

Last week, Google DeepMind released the RT-X model. This is a comprehensive robotics model with the primary objective of extending and applying its aptitude to diverse robots and tasks, including actions, vision, and language comprehension. This broadens its utility as a single tool for wide-ranging robotics research and application, in short, a general-purpose robot.

On the other hand, Tesla is going big on developing a humanoid robot that has finally learnt to do Yoga. So, is the future of robotics general purpose or humanoid?

Indian Army Banks on Quantum Tech

“Adopting quantum technologies is not a choice any longer—today, it is a question of getting in at the earliest,” said Ajay Kumar Sood, principal scientific advisor (PSA) to the Centre.

In line with this, earlier this year, India’s QKD (quantum key distribution) link between Sanchar Bhavan and NIC headquarters in Delhi went live. This link enables transmission of data through quantum communications networks over 150-200 kilometres currently, which can be further extended to over 2,000 kilometres in the future.
