Nova Systems supporting Norway solve complex challenges

Since opening an office in Stavanger, Norway, five years ago, Nova Systems continues to thrive in the country. The Australian owned and controlled company is supporting our clients in Norway solve complex challenges and deliver critical defence capability, Nova Systems General Manager Norway Lee Kormany writes …

Australia and Norway are likeminded partners who share a commitment to the rules-based international order and work together to advance international peace and security.

Australia and Norway established diplomatic ties in 1970.

Like Australia, Norway has a sparsely populated land mass with a variety of challenges from the south to the north. Norway values sovereignty. Norwegian companies invest in internal training and skills and their people are highly educated valuing education and innovation.

Since commencing operations in Norway, the Nova Systems team has expanded to a total of seven employees across nationalities including Norwegian, British, Dutch and Australian/Irish. They are supported by a further seven personnel from the Nova Systems UK team.

Nova Systems is supporting the Department of Justice with the introduction into service of the AW101 Search and Rescue Helicopters. Operated by the Royal Norwegian Airforce, Nova Systems delivers an Operational Test and Evaluation (T&E) program to realise the entire operating intent of the AW101 fleet.

In the case of the AW101s, Norway wanted maximum benefit from their investment as quickly as possible.

Through engaging with Nova Systems, Norway is realising the full effect of the AW101s. As we test the helicopter, we expand the roles it plays within the Royal Norwegian Air Force and the Department of Justice so the capability can be delivered with confidence.

After demonstrating our skill and having success on this program, in 2019, the Norwegian Government awarded Nova Systems the contract to support the Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF) with the development of their helicopter Anti-Submarine Warfare capability, which is a new capability for the Norwegian defence force.

Nova Systems is also delivering operational T&E training courses to the Royal Norwegian Airforce. Not only are our people leaders in this field but they have lived experienced which enables them to deliver engaging, up-to-date and relevant information to whoever needs it.

Since 2021, Nova Systems has also been providing support to the Norwegian Space Agency (NoSA) as they put into place procedures and practices ahead of the opening of the new orbital satellite rocket launch facility in Andøya in Norway’s North. With the first launch planned in 2023, this facility is expected to become Europe`s busiest launch facility with up to 30 rocket launches expected by 2025.

Having grown from a small Australian start-up to an international company, we can leverage our experience and bring solutions with a global perspective.

As we are truly independent and with our breath of experience across different regions of the world, Nova Systems can support our clients to fully appreciate the capabilities they need to acquire and get the most out of their existing capabilities.

For the Norwegian defence force and other government departments, our independence and equipment agnostic approach brings an object lens to complex programs.

There is no doubt our work and our partnerships in Norway are invaluable.

We are transferring our expertise and lessons learnt from Australia and the UK to support Norway, but at the same time, we’re taking learnings from the Norwegians to support our path for growth and success across the globe.

Nice. I've spent many hours testing 101s, very smooth platform (as long as ACSR keeps working).
