New: Patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) have the best chance for a longer and healthier life if they receive a kidney transplant. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a multicomponent intervention designed to target several barriers that prevent eligible patients from completing key steps toward receiving a kidney transplant.
New: Study found limited impact of a provincial virtual urgent care (VUC) pilot program to divert patients with less severe health issues from emergency departments during the COVID-19 pandemic. These findings highlight the need to better understand the inherent limitations of virtual care and ensure future VUC providers have timely access to in-person outpatient resources for follow-up, to reduce subsequent emergency department visits and ensure appropriate use of emergency department services.
New: Study looking at over 700,000 adults in their final year of life dealing with either terminal cancer, organ failure or dementia found a higher proportion of female patients received physician-delivered palliative care compared to male patients.
