Now hiring - COO (Chief Operating Officer), Bristol (UK)

COO (Chief Operating Officer), Bristol (UK)

At the beginning of November 2017, this company did not exist. By Christmas 2017, the team had grown to 4. By November 2018, the team had risen to 18. Just 5 months later we are looking for a COO to join as team member no.29.

That pace of growth is expected to continue – now you know why we are looking for a COO.

Many companies talk of ambitious plans, but here growth is a trajectory - not only supported by great customer demand, but also driven by a core value for people that encourages and allows the inner creative genius to emerge in each team member.

The results are truly impressive, in terms of business growth and in delivery for clients. This is a young business with a young team of people truly exercising their innate ability to innovate, problem-solve and inspire their marketplace.

So, what is this extraordinary business?

We are the link between brands, online content creators and their audiences, enabling great brands to access the influence of creators on their audience and allowing creators the flexibility to keep doing what they love for their audience.

Key to the company’s success is the fact that everyone in the triangle wins – brands improve their reach, creators get support without tie-ins or exclusive contracts, and their audiences keep getting the very best creative content.

Though the company is less than 2 years old, it is the creation of some of the founding fathers in the world of Youtube and online influence. Their leadership, investment and unrivalled market knowledge underpin the future success of the business.

Now the company’s CEO requires a No.2 – the right-hand to the CEO.

Your remit will be simple:

  1. To ensure smooth running of the organisation, leading change during a time of growth and expansion.  Leading a growing campaign management team taking each creative project through from initial lead, ideas phase, pitch/proposal, planning, execution and analytics/reporting of results. Ensuring smooth integration of video production, merchandising and data analytics capability into campaigns to maximise client results and user experience.
  2. To build on the values and sense of purpose that drives the business and its team.

Values underpinning the success of the team:

  • Take responsibility
  • Innovate
  • Be a great colleague
  • Be resilient
  • Act like an owner

We have a clear vision of ‘what’ we can achieve and ‘when’ – it will be down to you and your new team to figure out ‘how’.

How often do you see that opportunity on a job description?

Company Vision:  To enable creators to do the thing they love.

Audiences need that passion and integrity from their content creators. This gives creators influence, insight, audience and voice, which is highly valuable to brands when effectively optimised for reach and profitability.

Our team makes that happen.

What kind of person is likely to get the best results in this role?

This company is thriving on encouraging the team to let-out their inner genius, be creative, learn from mistakes and quickly capitalise on successes. The team is the heart of the business and the source of its success.

To build on this success and create the foundation and stability for the team to grow and shine, we need a Level 5 Leader. If you are not yet familiar with Jim Collin’s book ‘Good to Great’ (highly recommended by the way), then the two key traits of a Level 5 Leader are:

  • Professional Will – you have an unwavering resolve and resilience to do whatever must be done for the best long-term results of the company and its clients. You take responsibility for achieving objectives – learning quickly from mistakes and sharing successes. You’ll challenge the status quo, to drive the business and its results.
  • Personal Humility – this is not a company for big egos. You will be there to enable the team, not impose authority or rules. You probably inspire more by building standards than relying on charisma. You prefer to give credit than to receive it and your ambition is to build success for the team and the company rather than to boost your own position.

It is likely you will have strong campaign or project driven experience, probably in a creative industry – if not, you’ll certainly be very focused on customer experience and delivery. Your daily mantra will be focused on Execution, User Experience, Team Culture and continually improving the tools and processes your team needs to execute the best possible user experience.

The offer:

In addition to truly making a difference in a fast-evolving industry with creativity at its heart, we are offering an excellent salary, benefits and performance related rewards package (though I have a feeling it’s the people, the innovation and the ambition that you will value most of all).

Does this sound like a good fit for you? If so, please get in touch and let me know why this could be the right opportunity for you.

Oliver Parker, Capability Consulting

By the way, I am a recruiter, though not like others you may have dealt with. I am only interested in achieving a ‘win/win’ for you and my client. I have already been paid, so only the right result matters to me now – that means I will tell you everything you need to know to decide if this is really the right opportunity for you. Warts and all. I know the business, I know the people – that’s why I already feel part of the team. I won’t waste your time. I won’t hassle you to take a role that isn’t right for you. But I may be able to help you into a role you’ll love.
