October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Understand and help others to recognize domestic violence and sexual assault, as we are stronger in learning how to recognize and respond to someone who may need support, we can take steps to prevent these crimes from impacting what equates to 20 men or women per minute being physically abused by an intimate partner every day in the USA! That equates to over the size of the entire population of New York, the most populated city in the USA.

More than 10 million women and men annually or 1 in every 4 women, and 1 in every 9 men have reported sexual violence, and/or intimate partner stalking with impacts such as injury, fearfulness, post-traumatic stress disorder, use of victim services, contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, etc.

Intimate Domestic Partner violence represents 15% of all violent crime. Having a gun in the home of a domestic violence abuser, multiplies the risk of homicide by 500%, A study found 72% of all murder-suicides are related to an intimate partner where 94% of the victims are female.

  • Only 34% of people injured by their intimate partners receive medical care for their injuries because fear, guilt or shame causes them to bear the risk in silence, untreated, unreported.
  • Untreated Domestic Violence victimization, has been correlated with a higher rate of depression and suicidal behavior.

I pray that this will be the last time we ever see this. There should be no domestic violence, none.
