Ode To My Husband

This was the best Father's Day Card anyone can receive.

Born and raised on the west side of Chicago in the 1960s, the young man had an extraordinary mentor in his life—his father. A professional electro-mechanical engineer, his father possessed an innate ability to nurture his son's curiosity and potential. From an early age, the young man was immersed in the world of electronics, learning how to read schematics and repair televisions and radios by the tender age of eight. His father instilled in him a powerful belief—that he could accomplish anything he set his mind to.

Growing up, the young man faced a challenging environment. Gangs lurked on every corner, tempting him to join their ranks. However, he remembered the teachings of his father, the man who had always encouraged him to believe in himself and focus on his dreams. So, he chose a different path. He donned metaphorical blinders, blocking out the distractions and negativity surrounding him.

With unwavering determination, the young man set his sights on a remarkable goal—to be accepted into the number one-ranked high school in Illinois at that time: Lane Tech. Despite the hardships and the temptation to succumb to peer pressure, he channeled his energy into his studies. He fought against the taunting and name-calling, earning him the moniker "Lane Brain." But he knew deep inside that true success would come from staying focused and honoring his father's teachings.

His perseverance paid off. The young man received the acceptance letter he had yearned for, granting him the opportunity to leave behind the neighborhood that had threatened to hold him back. Stepping into Lane Tech, he encountered a new world, filled with diverse experiences and opportunities. Yet, his father's guidance remained ever-present in his heart and mind.

Embracing this fresh start, the young man thrived. He absorbed knowledge like a sponge, excelling in his classes and immersing himself in extracurricular activities. He proved to himself and others that the name "Lane Brain" could be worn as a badge of honor—a testament to his unwavering commitment to success.

As time passed, the young man grew into an accomplished adult. He knew that his transformational journey was a testament to the love and guidance he had received from his father. Although his father had passed away, his spirit lived on within him. Every day, the young man thought of him, striving to be the supportive figure his father had been to him.

He became a beacon of inspiration, not only to his own children but also to his friends and coworkers. He exemplified the principles his father had imparted—making wise decisions, embracing new beginnings, displaying determination, fostering a hunger for knowledge, and always striving to do his best.

In a world that had once tried to confine him to its limited expectations, the young man broke free. He shattered stereotypes, proving that with the right support and belief in oneself, anything is possible. And as he continued to journey through life, he carried his father's memory with him, forever grateful for the legacy of love, guidance, and unyielding belief that had shaped him into the extraordinary person he had become.
