The fifth season of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) is underway and we'd be remised if we didn't highlight the immense amount of U SPORTS talent, both past and present, that's been on display through the first week of the league's regular season. But first, let's give you a quick rundown.

The Impact on Current U SPORTS Players

Currently, the CEBL is the only professional basketball league that annually holds an entry draft for U SPORTS Men's basketball players:

  • Players selected in the CEBL's draft must be current U SPORTS MBB players with remaining U SPORTS eligibility - Yes, this means you can be drafted in your first, second, third, or fourth year of school!
  • Acting more as a developmental program for U SPORTS players, the salary earned during their seasons gets applied directly to their tuition in the following school year.
  • The opportunity allows U SPORTS MBB players to spend their offseasons gaining valuable experience, playing professionally against some of the world's top athletes while working with the world's top coaches, trainers, and basketball minds.
  • The CEBL's 2023 U SPORTS draft class can be found here

The Stats

While what the CEBL offers to U SPORTS athletes is attractive, the numbers prove that the league is more than just all talk, with a record number of U SPORTS players, past or present, either suiting up or starting for CEBL teams in 2023:

  • On the league's 2023 opening day, there were 40 players accounted for on CEBL rosters who have either played in U SPORTS or are currently on U SPORTS rosters
  • Through the first week of the 2023 regular season, 10 different U SPORTS players, past or present, have started on CEBL teams

The Standout Performances
