One Freelance Writer's Top 10 LinkedIn Posts of 2024

Some of us just can’t get enough of year-end lists.👋Seeing a blogger’s top posts of the year or a website’s most popular articles can give me a taste of the type of content they’re publishing and inspire me to sign up for more through their newsletters or social feeds.

Since my audience has tripled in size in the past 18 months (thank you!) and many of you are incredibly busy, there’s a good chance you missed some (or all) of these LinkedIn posts.

If you haven’t already, sign up for my weekly writing and business tips newsletter sent through Beehiiv for freelancers, creatives, marketing professionals, and business owners here.

I share actionable tips to help you grow your business and snag higher-paying clients.

You’re inspiring!”

What worked? I shared a personal story about a neighbor I saw running past my house every day for four years. Then I named and tagged LinkedIn voices who show up consistently and inspire me. I asked for readers to tag those who inspire them on LinkedIn.

There will be weeks you don’t get paid.

What worked? Brutal honesty about freelance finance situations. Also, advice that worked for me after freelancing for 15 years.

Ready to know what’s Really factored into a freelancer’s rate?

What worked? Freelance audiences love to read about rates. I think those who don’t freelance are always curious about what freelancers charge and managers who use freelancers like to see how their rates stack up. Asked for comments. Posted a photo.

THESE are the newsletters I always read to the bottom.

What worked? Tagging other creators in the post. Asking for additional suggestions in the comments for followers to share their favorite newsletter writers.

Think your business stands out from the competition? That it’s AI-proof? That your clients will always be willing to pay top dollar for your services? I'm here to burst that bubble a bit. 🫧

What worked? This post announced the launch of my blog for freelancers, Best Freelance Tips. The post featured and tagged freelance writers who contributed to the blog.

Many professional writers and creators won’t like this post. Oh well.

What worked? Language that makes the reader want to know what ‘controversial’ or ‘unpopular opinion I’m going to share. The topic was about rates and included a gif.)

8 Traits of Extremely Successful Freelancers

What worked? This post called out the tips in an article I wrote. The post copy shared all eight traits but encouraged readers to check out the article. I also asked: What's been the No. 1 factor in your success?

Warning signs you’re not entirely ready to go full-time freelance.

What worked? Audiences love warning signs. I wrote this post, have been freelancing for nearly two decades and I still want to know what it says in case the copy tells me I’m not ready to be a full-time freelancer. I tagged some freelancers in the post to ask “What did I miss?”)

This weekend marks 11 years of my full-time freelance career.

I created this list last year of the "10 Things I Learned in 10 Years of Being a Freelancer," but there are about 3,000 more of you following me so I thought I'd share it again and freshen it up. (February 2024)

What worked? Audiences like to read the lists of lessons learned from someone who’s been in this industry for a long time.

I look forward to creating more content that resonates with you and a wider audience. If you know of someone who you think would benefit from reading this, please tag them in the comments below.
