The ONE HUNDRED is finished!!!

I finally finished my first major art project.

Six months, countless hours, untold gallons of paint and yards of canvas. One hundred paintings, all set and finished, waiting for the next steps in the process. My closet is full, I’ve got some stashed in Wisconsin at my parents place (from when I was there painting), and my room looks like a war zone. Really, it does.

It all started from a single painting, well, a series, that inspired me to ask myself, ‘what if I?’ Over and over again. I remember standing there, that night, after having painted like 10 or 15, hands covered in paint, spatters on my jeans, and streams of color winding their way around the canvas all over the carpet. With no education, background, or any idea of what I was doing, I just wanted to figure something out. Messy as the process was going to be, as much money and time as it was gonna take...I had to do it.

For me, that’s what art has been.

Figuring something out no matter the cost. My head is a Gordian knot of complication, thoughts, feelings, winding their way about in ways that, well, to be honest, are probably not good. Like most people on this planet I’ve been through some shit, continue to go through it, but, I decided to try and unwind things and make it a bit better. The jury is still out on if it’s working or not, hehe.

One hundred paintings...grouped in sets of five. A good number of them sponsored by individuals around the world, mostly by family, but also by friends and business associates. A leap of faith by people based on the potential they saw from what I’d done, definitely confidence inspiring. Over the next couple of weeks it will be time to reach out and update everybody. The moment of truth for the people who invested, for myself. Will they like what they see? Will they continue to believe, or lose interest?

What do they all mean?

What’s the story behind each of them? What’s with the color choices? Why did I do something one way, and another, well, another? So many questions that are going to have to be answered in this upcoming stage. Art without context is just a wall decoration, and I want them to be more than that. A journey of remembering, digesting, explaining...it’s gonna be a doozy.

What’s next?

Is also a huge question on the horizon. The possibilities and potential is huge, if harnessed correctly.  There’s so much I wanna show, but it’s gotta be done in the right way, or like most of art, will just get lost in the noise and disappear into the ether. A book? Merchandising? A gallery show? So many possibilities. So much more to learn and do before I get to reap what I have sown.

For now, know that I just finished something major. Maybe not for the world, but, definitely for myself. A small block in the foundation of what I want to create, it’s time to stand on what I’ve done and reach higher, add more blocks until I’m where I want to be, where I dream to be.
