The one where I change course
Morning,
Not gonna lie, I often draft and scrap the intro part to my newsletters, but this time it's a bit different.
You see, I have two newsletters, one that goes out to my mailing list first and this one on LinkedIn that repeats most of the content 5 days later. But this time, one election result and seeing what’s going on in general around the world, I've decided not to do that and to write something entirely different.
If you want to read the original intro article, it's here on my website and is about why more business leaders need to find their together. It's lovely, practical, valid and true from the place I drafted it, but in the last week I've realised what a privileged place that article comes from.
There are a million reasons why people are scared and fear putting themselves out there, so who am I, or who is anyone to say that YOU should. Especially when putting the real YOU out there could put you in a place of danger, it could lead to you being singled out or facing unfair treatment. When being YOU could actually lead to you having a target on your back and being victimised and even being unsafe.
I’m privileged to work with some of the smartest minds in the ESG space and have done so over the past few years. It’s fascinating. Planetary boundaries been exceeded as we're consuming and depleting far more resources from the earth than we're restoring and putting back, weather extremes are causing chaos, and we’re messing with nature and losing biodiversity at an alarming rate.
But the US has voted back in a Government that doesn't believe in the science of climate change at a time when we need action the most. Plus, we’re now hosting COP events in nations that are founded on capitalising oil. You really can’t make this s*it up.
Anyway, there isn’t a right way to end this stream of consciousness, but just to say the next year is going to be interesting on so many fronts, and we’re all going to need to be there for each other.
Bye for now,
Ayo
P.S. I'm live at 1230 today here on LinkedIn to talk about an event, Creatives Like Us, I'm launching that's taking place in Feb next year for black creatives in London with Angela Lyons . Join us here
