Martin Trope was born in Johannesburg, South Africa where he earned his BDS degree in dentistry in 1976. From 1976 to 1980, he practiced general dentistry and endodontics. In 1980, he moved to Philadelphia to specialize in Endodontics at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduating as an endodontist, he continued at the University of Pennsylvania as a faculty member until 1989 when he became Chair of Endodontology at Temple University, School of Dentistry.
In 1993, he accepted the JB Freedland Professorship in the Department of Endodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Dentistry. Named in honor of one of the founding fathers of Endodontics, the Freedland Professorship recognizes significant contributions to the specialty.
Dr. Trope is currently clinical professor, Department of Endodontics, School of Dental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He is in private practice in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. James G. Hupp received his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984. Upon graduating, he practiced general dentistry in the US Navy until 1993. In 1996, he completed his endodontic residency program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Master of Science degree. He became a diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics in 2003. In 2009, he retired from the US Naval Reserves at the rank of Captain. He has remained active as an educator and in 2011, as Associate Professor in the Department of Endodontics at the University of Mississippi Medical Center he was awarded Clinical Instructor of the Year and inducted into the prestigious Nelson Order. He currently is Director of Endodontics at Roseman University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine. His current research focus is Micro-CT evaluation of various instrumentation techniques.
Dr. Meetu Ralli Kohli is Clinical Associate Professor and the Director for Continuing Education and International Postdoctoral Program at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine, Endodontic department. Dr. Kohli earned her B.D.S. degree from Government Dental College, Bangalore, India. She pursued her D.M.D. degree as well as specialty training in Endodontics at the University of Pennsylvania, USA. During the course of her training she received the esteemed Louis I Grossman award, the Samuel R. Rossman scholarship and the Sherrill Ann Siegel award & scholarship for demonstrating excellence in patient care, clinical skills and research. She is on the Scientific Advisory Board as a reviewer for Journal of Endodontics and International Endodontic Journal. Dr. Kohli has published in national and international peer reviewed journals and has contributed a chapter on microsurgical retreatment. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. Dr. Kohli also maintains a part-time private practice limited to Endodontics in Pennsylvania, USA.
Dr. Bekir Karabucak is associate professor, director of the Postdoctoral Endodontics Program and director of Division of Advanced Dental Education at the University of Pennsylvania. He has been serving as interim chair of Endodontics since October 2014. After earning his dental degree from Istanbul University School of Dental Medicine in 1993, Dr. Karabucak completed his endodontic postgraduate training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine where he also received his Master’s Degree in Oral Biology in 1998. He later earned his DMD degree from Penn in 2002. Dr. Karabucak lectures at national and international conferences and has published in peer-reviewed journals. He serves on the editorial advisory board of several international peer-reviewed dental journals.
Dr. Setzer graduated from the Dental School of the Friedrich- Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, in 1995, where he also received his doctoral degree in 1998. He pursued his endodontic specialty training at the University of Pennsylvania after working for nine years in a multi-specialist private practice as associate and partner. Dr. Setzer graduated from the endodontic program of the University of Pennsylvania in 2006, receiving the Louis I Grossman Postdoctoral Student Award in Endodontics. He earned a Master of Science in Oral Biology and a DMD degree in 2008 and 2010, respectively. Dr. Setzer serves as the Clinic Director and Pre-Doctoral Program Director at the Department of Endodontics of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Setzer lectures on several topics of endodontics throughout the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia. He has authored articles on endodontics in peer-review journals and serves as Associate Editor for Endodontics for Quintessence International and, amongst other journals, on the scientific advisory board of Journal of Endodontics, International Endodontic Journal and Journal of the American Dental Association.
