Organizational Values…Are they even necessary?
In this day and age, that might be a good question to start with when we look at all that is happening around the world, in our country, and indeed our organizations.
Asking another question: How are your organizational values actually working for you?
- Do you even know what they are?
- How were they chosen for your organization?
- Does your entire organization buy into them?
Some questions to reflect upon when you look what is happening in your organization?
How was this last year for you? Better than expected profit margins, great morale, high productivity, low staff turnover, no conflict in the workspace?….all in all one of your best years yet?
If not, what seem to be your major challenges? Could one of them be your values….or lack of them? The reason I am asking these, maybe awkward questions is, to make you aware of the importance of basic human values in any organization.
A book got published several years ago about a large survey done with 10,000+ employees in companies ranging from 50 to more than 10,000 staff and they were questioned about their CEO and EXCO teams. What came out was simply astonishing; Those organizations where upper management worked and lived with values, were up to 5X more profitable than those that did not!
Now, I don’t know about you but if your organization showed up to FIVE TIMES more profitability by the end of 2020 what would that look like for your board members, shareholders, and staff? How would your next year end be ‘ever so slightly’ different than this one?
Off course some of you have a fine set of values on the wall, which most people cannot recall, including most top management, many staff don’t buy into them, and a large part of your organization don’t even know why to implement or live by them as they do not understand how to do so.
Don’t we often tell others they should listen better, have a more positive attitude, or show some respect? Have we ever stood still long enough and thought about HOW they should implement that particular value and then explain it to them?
What if your organization put out a survey to ALL its employees about the 3 values which are most important to them, then develop the company values accordingly?
If there was a way for all employees to fully understand those values and be on the same page, how amazing would that be?
Remember, those organizations that work and live by basic human values are up to 5X more profitable!!!
There are so many benefits of Values Based Leadership and its implementation into the entire organization….not just to be on the same page, but getting to understand our fellow employees on a totally different, human level, communicating openly and much more often.....
There is a long list of benefits to such an implementation and we have already done many case studies, even been part of the start of transformation of entire countries using this methodology
.
I am sure that, after reading this far, you will agree that organizational values are not just necessary but pivotal to the success of the company.
