Our Body as Our Car - Central Nervous System
Even though the science is clear and most are embracing a better way of healing and achieving extremely high performance, many of us are not aware how the process works for us. Today it is a story about our body, our brain and a car.
Hopefully this stimulates the conversation and allows others to form questions.
When it comes to our body being our car, it is important we are aware our Nervous Systems are our Driver and Control System
Think of our body as a high-performance car, with every part working together to keep you moving, functioning, and responding to the world.
Here’s how our nervous system fits into this simple picture:
1. The Brain: The Driver
The brain is like the driver of the car. It decides where to go, how fast to drive, and when to stop or turn. Just like a driver keeps an eye on the road and reacts to traffic, our brain constantly monitors our surroundings and decides how our body (the car) should respond.
2. The Spinal Cord: The Steering Wheel and Central Wiring
The spinal cord is like our car's steering wheel and central wiring system. It connects the driver (brain) to the vehicle (body). When the driver wants to turn left, the steering wheel sends that command to the car’s wheels. Similarly, our spinal cord carries messages from the brain to the rest of our body, telling our muscles and organs what to do.
3. Nerves: The Wires and Cables
The nerves are like the car’s wiring system, spreading to every part of the vehicle. These “wires” carry electrical signals (messages) from the driver to specific areas and parts of the car, such as turning on the headlights or adjusting the brakes. In your body, nerves transmit signals to control movement, sensation, and vital functions like breathing and digestion.
4. The Sensors: Your Body’s Input Devices
Every car has sensors—like a fuel gauge, speedometer, and parking sensors—that collect information and send it back to the driver. In our body, sensory nerves work in a similar way. They gather data from your environment (like temperature, pressure, and pain) and send it to your brain, helping us understand what’s happening around us.
5. The Reflex System: Automatic Features
Like modern cars have automatic systems, such as anti-lock brakes, your body has reflexes. These are quick, automatic responses that don’t require the driver to think. For example, if we touch something hot, our nerves send an emergency signal to our spinal cord, which instantly tells our muscles to pull our hand away—no brain input is needed!
6. Fuel and Maintenance: Keeping Our Car Running
Our car needs fuel, oil changes, and regular maintenance to work well. Similarly, our nervous system needs proper care, including:

• Nutrition: Your brain and nerves run on energy from food, like a car needs fuel.
• Rest: Relaxation and Sleep will recharge our car’s battery.
• Repairs: If something gets damaged, such as a pinched nerve, it’s like a wire in our car getting cut. A repair is required to keep the system running smoothly.
Why Our Nervous System is our first Assessment.
Without the nervous system, our car (our body) would be useless. Even if our engine, tires, and frame are in perfect condition, the car won’t move or respond without the driver or the wiring to connect everything.
Please ask me about this measurement process. I am happy to point you in the right direction.
By measuring and taking care of our nervous system—eating well, getting enough sleep, and avoiding harmful substances—we ensure that our “car” runs smoothly for years to come!
I look forward to your questions and your observations.
