Outstanding conferences and exciting experiences

June and July, just before the holidays, have been two intense months in travel and participation in outstanding congress.

First of all, at the European Hair Research meeting in Sheffield I was able to give one of the talks that gave me the most satisfaction. I was chosen as a guest to give the main conference of the congress, the John Ebling lecture in honor of a prestigious biologist and naturalist.

I took the opportunity to review the phylogenetic relationship of hair and feathers. And I focused on teaching methods applicable to both the study of birds and Trichology. It was a very emotional conference and I received very positive feedback.

As both my passions teaching and birdwatching are involved in my present priorities here you can have a look to some of my last bird pictures.

In general, they found the concept of JIZZ applied in medicine as a clinical eye very inspiring. I have been able to combine work and hobby in a very satisfactory way.

Also, I was so honored to have Francis Ebling in the room listening to my talk and to receive so many compliments from him. I am also sure his father would have liked it!

25th World Congress of Dermatology

Much further from home, in Singapore, I had the privilege of presenting two papers at events held by the International Society for Pediatric Dermatology in the framework of the 25th World Congress of Dermatology, the most important event in the world, which takes place every three years and which I am traveling to Southeast Asia this year.

In the first I talked about pediatric hair disorders, hair disorders in children. With a review of the most common pathologies and the most outstanding treatments recently presented.

In the second presentation, in the pediatric dermatology sessions, a specialty that together with trichology concentrates most of my professional and research activity, I referred to non-trichological clinical cases that can affect children, whose development and diagnosis can be of interest to event attendees.

It was a very interesting event, which was attended by very prominent professionals from all over the world and in which, among others, I had the pleasure of personally meeting Arun Inamadar Inamadar , Ped Dermatologist, and Pro Vice Chancellor, in BLDE University with whom I share medical interests.

Instagram, an excellent communication channel

I have referred to it on occasion, and I want to highlight again the importance that some social channels such as Instagram have for dermatologists to send short and simple messages to thousands of people on a massive scale about questions that are repeated over and over again.

On my Instagram's channel, I regularly post videos (subtitled in English) with answers to all these questions and the response is very good in terms of their acceptance and the debate they generate. I think they are an excellent prevention tool and possibly many hospitals and health institutions should increase their use to inform more and better.

The next edition of the Dermatology Update will be published at the end of September. I wish you all good summer holidays.
