GLOSSOPHOBIA: the fear of public speaking, is remarkably common.

In fact, experts estimate that as much as 77% of business professionals have significant levels of anxiety speaking in front of a crowd. People often ask me if I still get nervous before I speak at events and to be honest, I still do. Having been in the speaking game for over three decades, it's gotten a lot less though.

KEY REMINDER: UCLA Psychology professor Albert Mehrabian discovered communication can be broken down into three components: words, tone of voice, and body language.

  1. WHAT WE SAY accounts for only 7% of what is received and believed.
  2. THE WAY WE SAY IT accounts for 38%.
  3. WHAT WE SEE AND FEEL is 55%.

With practice and by reminding yourself of these keys, you'll overcome fear and surprise yourself and others by how well you communicate and connect.

Here's to speaking with confidence and connection!
