Overwhelmed? Take This One Step

Overwhelmed? Take This One Step

As a GenXer, you get overwhelmed. You feel like you're only reacting to whatever is coming your way. You have no time to think. The holidays were a blur. You've got so many responsibilities. You are feeling like you're being controlled, rather than being in control. What to do?

There is no better way to make progress toward regaining your control than by first getting everything out of your head and onto paper. So that's my challenge to you today. Download your mind. See what it does to help you take your first step to recovery and empowerment.

Downloading is about clearing the mind so you can act more intelligently and with greater leverage.

Here are a couple articles for your continued reading:

CLEAR YOUR MIND

"While you may have been told in the past to "clear your mind" to let go of stress, this strategy isn't actually about letting go of all the thoughts and worries in your mind. Instead, it is about learning how to be more mindful and observing your thoughts without judging them." READ MORE

DECLUTTER YOUR MIND

"When your mind is cluttered, it wastes your time and mental energy. It also creates mental confusion, distraction, and disorganization that prevents you from creating clear priorities, making decisions, having focus, and being productive. When your mind is cluttered, you are not present, which causes you to lose connection to yourself, your environment, your relationships, and the moment you are in. It’s time to let go..." READ MORE

REMOVE SUBCONSCIOUS BLOCKS

"Your subconscious is so powerful, that some say it’s the propelling force of the law of attraction. Opinions about this topic are everywhere and only a few of them are right. The truth is… Your subconscious mind can be your best friend as well as your worst enemy." READ MORE

Ah Scott - wise post! Writing things down on paper can help to clear the mind; however, entrepreneurs would benefit greatly by utilizing a system to make those items actionable, rather than just flat on a piece of paper. I don't promote or endorse any specific system, the best system to use is the one that you WILL use :) The problem with a piece of paper, unless it's just a standalone journaling effort of course, is that it doesn't work with you. You must rewrite that list over and over until all items are complete - you can't set reminders, etc... Doing project and production management in the corporate world for years, I had SO many details in my head constantly that people wondered how I kept it all straight - but I had a system that I worked out of that kept all of the important details top of mind and let all the details that didn't matter right now live in "later land" ;) As we Generation X entrepreneurs get older and wiser, it's important to have a clear mind to focus on what's at hand and to always latch on to the ability to work smarter rather than harder whenever possible!

Thanks Scott, this is timely and something I need to do in a hurry - well I mean soon rather than doing the download in a hurry! I have so many ideas that I am even thinking about stopping reading LinkedIn posts and other material for a while, just to try to find the space to allow the space to see any promising patterns in my niche discovery efforts over the last 6 months.
