Pakistan Positioned as Bridge Between Civilizations
The Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary , delivered a keynote speech at a seminar in Beijing, titled “Decade of CPEC and BRI and Beyond,” organized by the Belt and Road Center of National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). The seminar brought together a diverse array of participants, including academics, scholars, and representatives from various State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).
During his address, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal underscored the transformative role of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Pakistan's development landscape. He highlighted how CPEC has addressed critical infrastructure needs and power shortages in the country, contributing significantly by adding 8,000 MW to its power generation capacity. Over the past decade, CPEC has not only bolstered Pakistan's economic foundations but also fostered regional connectivity, aligning with the broader objectives of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
The Federal Minister emphasized the alignment between Pakistan's 5-E's framework – Export, E-Pakistan, Environment, Energy, and Equity – and the new corridors of growth outlined by Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng. This synergy reflects a shared vision for inclusive regional development and sustainable growth under CPEC Phase II.
Acknowledging the importance of Chinese presence in Pakistan, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal assured that Pakistan considers Chinese nationals as esteemed guests and prioritizes their security and safety. He stressed the significance of evidence-based joint research to showcase the success stories of CPEC and BRI, urging collaboration between academics and scholars from both countries.

The Government of Pakistan's commitment to structural reforms to enhance resource mobilization and minimize losses was also highlighted. The establishment of the Special Facilitation Investment Council (SIFC) aims to streamline decision-making processes and foster a conducive environment for investors. Prof. Ahsan Iqbal extended invitations to Chinese institutions to collaborate on energy management systems and green energy transition plans, emphasizing the importance of sharing recommendations for mutual benefit.

Initiatives such as inviting Chinese industries to relocate to Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Pakistan and promoting business-to-business (B2B) linkages demonstrate a commitment to maximizing the potential of CPEC for mutual prosperity.
