Social media platforms, recommendation algorithms, and smart devices are designed to keep us engaged, ensuring that we generate as much data as possible.

Every like, every share, every search query adds to their growing knowledge base. The more data we provide, the better they understand us — and the more accurately they can predict and influence our behavior.

This is not a passive process. Machines exploit our cognitive biases, our desire for validation, and our need for convenience. They make it easy — temptingly easy — to share data. Why bother remembering directions when your GPS can guide you?

Why struggle with what to watch when streaming services can recommend something based on your past behavior? Machines feed on our laziness, our need for instant gratification, and our fear of missing out. They create a cycle of dependency that ensures a steady flow of data while reinforcing their control over our lives.
