Part 2 of 10 on Enhancing Privacy and Security with Heather Noggle

Welcome to the second part of our 10-part series on Google Chrome hardening to Center for Internet Security own CIS Benchmarks . This week, we had the pleasure of hosting Heather Noggle from the Missouri Cybersecurity Center of Excellence . Heather shared invaluable insights on enhancing privacy and security settings in Chrome, offering practical advice and real-world examples.

Managing Browser History and Privacy

Heather emphasized the importance of managing browser history to enhance privacy. Disabling the saving of browser history ensures that unauthorized users cannot trace previous web activities, protecting sensitive information. Heather highlighted how this simple setting can significantly boost privacy by preventing potential breaches that leverage browsing data.

DNS Interception Checks

One of the standout topics was the importance of enabling DNS interception checks. Heather explained that DNS spoofing is a common attack vector, where attackers redirect users to malicious sites without their knowledge. Enabling DNS interception checks helps in identifying and preventing such spoofing attempts, ensuring that users are always directed to legitimate websites.

Component Updates in Chrome

Heather discussed the necessity of keeping Chrome components up to date. She pointed out that many essential security features and optimizations are hidden behind these updates. Failing to update can leave your system vulnerable to new threats. By ensuring that component updates are enabled, organizations can leverage the latest security enhancements and bug fixes provided by Chrome.

Blocking Third-Party Software Injection

The conversation also covered the dangers of third-party software injection. Heather shared how attackers often use third-party software to inject malicious code into browsers. Enabling the blocking of third-party software injection helps to safeguard against these threats, providing an additional layer of security. This setting is crucial for maintaining the integrity of browser operations and preventing unauthorized access.

🚀 Weekly Entrepreneurial Insight: Getting Ahead on Repeated Tasks

Getting ahead on repeated tasks can feel great, but the true impact often remains uncertain until you see the results. This past week, and honestly since I got back from family time, I've been focused on getting ahead with our marketing efforts, creating webinar content, collaborating with new guests, making social posts, writing blogs, and even putting together this newsletter.

While I continued to make partner calls and take all my meetings, I’m eager to find out if this proactive approach will actually free me up to focus on higher-value activities. The summer season often means fewer people want to talk to security vendors, right? Haha. But here's the takeaway: proactively managing routine tasks might just be the key to unlocking more strategic, impactful work. By staying ahead, we can create space for innovation and deeper engagement with our core mission. So, let’s see how this strategy unfolds, if nothing else, it’s a great exercise in discipline and foresight!

📅 Upcoming Webinar: Attack Surfaces and Content Settings with Maria Scarmardo

Next week, we’ll continue our series with Part 3, featuring Maria S. of Praxis Data Security . We'll explore attack surfaces and content settings in Google Chrome .
