How did it all start? 

Fey's introduction to engineering was serendipitous and sparked by a moment of curiosity. While in college, she stumbled upon her father's engineering book and decided to explore its contents during her gap year. Little did she know that this simple act would shape her future. As Fey delved into the world of engineering mathematics, she discovered a passion for problem-solving and an eagerness to learn more. This newfound interest led her to consider pursuing engineering as a career. 

The decision to embark on an engineering journey was solidified during Fey's college years. Engaging in conversations about science and STEM subjects, she realised the vast array of opportunities that awaited her in the field of engineering. Her academic background in physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics provided her with a strong foundation. However, it was her experience with engineering textbooks that truly sealed the deal. The realisation that she could be part of something bigger than herself, contributing to advancements that would outlast her, ignited her passion for engineering. 

What is your source of inspiration? 

What inspires Fey the most about engineering is the limitless potential to make a difference. During her university years, she participated in a research project that focused on teaching paralyzed individuals how to read and write using their eyes. This eye-opening experience demonstrated the power of collaboration and the collective impact engineers can have on society. Fey understood that her contribution, no matter how small, would be a stepping stone for future engineers to build upon. It is this idea of leaving a legacy that continues to inspire her every day. 

What is the best thing about being an engineer? 

Working at Brigade Electronics, Fey finds inspiration not only in the engineering challenges she faces but also in the people she works with. She believes that a fulfilling career in engineering requires working alongside professionals who share a common goal and who contribute to each other's growth. Whether it's collaborating with firmware engineers, software engineers, or quality engineers, Fey emphasizes the importance of teamwork and the power it holds in achieving remarkable results. She believes that being a team player is essential for engineers to thrive in their roles and make a significant impact. 

What is a typical day at Brigade? 

A typical day at Brigade Electronics is dynamic and ever-changing for Fey. With the team spread across different locations across the globe, regular morning calls serve as an opportunity to discuss priorities, challenges, and goals for the day. Faye's work spans a diverse range of tasks, from conducting qualifications to reviewing results and performing security analyses. The constant variation and the need to adapt keep her engaged and excited. Faye emphasizes that no two days are the same, and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities is a vital skill in the world of engineering. 

What is your message to the next generation of engineers?
