PEACE IN THE MIDST OF THE STORM!
As we face life in the world today, there isn’t a problem, situation, or circumstance that we may be going through that has not already been experienced and solved according to God’s Word. Every sickness, challenge, adversity, and evil has been defeated by the Lord Jesus Himself. We as His children carry the mandate to continue this victorious life by living according to His Word and overcoming the challenges that may present themselves to us. One incident that clearly stands out for me right now is the storm on the Sea of Galilee that Jesus presides over. It was as if all the forces of nature or the elements as we often refer to them were in total conflict with each other until Jesus puts an end to their violent demonstration and soon peace and tranquility prevails once more.
Matthew 8:24-26 “Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, ‘Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!’ He replied, ‘You of little faith, why are you so afraid?’ Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.’”
The storms that I refer to are all those challenges, handicaps, illnesses, shortcomings, perils, distortions, and problems that we all must face during life. No one is exempt from them. They may be seen as the turbulences that we all have to endure in this journey of life. Our storms may be unique, some more devastating than others, yet God promises that we will overcome these storms when we live according to His instructions. We all need the Prince of Peace to be a part of our lives as we tackle the storms in our lives. We all have heard of these phrases, and they ring true when we examine the challenges that we currently face. ‘Hard to keep our heads above water’ – ‘Difficult to stay afloat’ – ‘When it rains, it pours…’ While the storm is meant to make us better getting through it might be a task, but when we do, we realize the changes that the storm has affected in our lives!
Are you going through a storm right now? Probably financial, material, physical, spiritual, emotional, or mental. It really does not matter on what front you may be dealing with your storm. My question is, “Is Jesus asleep in your boat?” Is Jesus a living part of your life? Are you in talking terms with Him? Do you share in a relationship with Him? You see, to panic, or feel confused is human and may occur as with the disciples. But do you have Him in your boat so that you can run to Him when the storm approaches? Getting frustrated, irritated, rebellious, disillusioned, and confused is not going to help! Turning to Him and asking for His help will. Your storm may be well out of your hands, but they are certainly not out of His. “What is impossible with man, is possible with God!” Allow Him to be the anchor of your boat. If Jesus is in the boat, it cannot be destroyed by the elements that rise against us! You see, even the elements fear the Lord!

We need realize that the storm we face is not the problem. The way we choose to handle it is! The way we think, the actions we take and the moves we make will determine whether we have the victory over the situation, or if we will be defeated by it! On our own we will surely fail. The storm will cause us to shipwreck. But when we are in God’s hands, we have no problems with the storms that come our way, because the One who has our best interest at heart, controls the storms as well. When He speaks, they listen! When He commands, they do as He commanded! This shows their reverence and obedience to His authority. Yet as human beings who ought to know much better than the elements, we oversee we seem so far off the mark. We don’t seriously relate to our Creator as we ought to. Never forget that wisdom, knowledge and understanding comes from God. Without God’s guidance and help we are like ships without a compass, not knowing where we are going on the seas of life! His peace is available in the Person of Jesus Christ. Receive Him today and live for Him all the days of your life!
