The Pen, Mightier than the Pixel? Dubai Educators Ditch Tech Exams in a Bid to Crush AI-Cheating Epidemic

Cheating students at Curtin University Dubai better watch out - the tech-free exam era is back, baby! No more relying on AI programmes like ChatGPT to write your essays, because it's time to bring out the good old pen and paper. We know it sounds like something straight out of the Stone Age, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

The university has decided to go back to basics with handwritten exams to prevent any further shenanigans after an incident where one-third of the students were caught using AI to write their essays. The uni is taking no chances when it comes to students cheating with tech! After all, no one wants a degree that's about as credible as a unicorn's degree in magic.

The Head of Education Technology at Taaleem, Marcus Topham, was recently reported preaching responsible digital use, but let's face it - when a third of a class is caught cheating with AI, it's time to hit the panic button. And with privacy concerns on the rise, universities have no choice but to take drastic action to protect their credibility.

Daniel Adkins, the Group Chief Executive of Transnational Academic Group, recently warned the NUAE that if we don't nip this cheating epidemic in the bud, "universities could become obsolete, and future employers might start questioning the value of a degree".

With this in mind, it might just be time to break up with ChatGPT and rekindle our love affair with pens and paper. Sure, we may not have telepathy exams (just yet), but who needs them when we have the good old-fashioned art of handwriting? So time to put down the keyboards, bring back the fluffy-ended pens of the nineties and invest in the lost art of calligraphy. As the famous saying goes, "The pen is mightier than the...keyboard" - well, at least for now.
