Pep Talk - November 23rd 2023

This month from Qkine

Developing collaborations with dynamic academic labs and other companies to provide protocol support to the field is one of the most enjoyable parts of our scientific teams’ role. This month, we’re highlighting work with Joshua Thomas , Felix B. and Natalia Rodriguez-Muela from the superb German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) , Germany. This study compared mTESR, Stem Flex and media containing Qkine thermostable FGF-2 (Qk053) and showed enhanced colony health with the thermostable FGF2-G3-containing media.

Also…

  • Qkine high purity CNTF (Qk063) is three-fold more bioactive than another major supplier, highlighting the importance of using sensitive bioassays to provide clear quantitative information to inform protocol development and save lab resources.
  • Our newly launched GM-CSF (Qk076) is an important addition to our growing hematopoietic stem cell range
  • We are pleased to announce a new distribution agreement in the United States with Thomas Scientific
  • New customers can benefit from a 30% introductory discount for three months

Finally, as part of our commitment to constantly improving growth factor quality and availability, we will introduce a modest price increase on January 1st 2024. Learn more below, and if you would like a quote to order before Christmas, please contact customerservice@qkine.com.

Case study

Thermostable FGF2-G3 for improved homogeneity of iPSC cultures

Our thermostable and animal-free FGF2-G3 (Qk053) is highly validated and straightforward to substitute in your standard stem cell media. Read our case study in collaboration with Joshua Thomas, Felix Buchner and Natalia Rodriguez-Muela from Deutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen (DZNE), Germany, to see how they used FGF2-G3 to reduce weekend media changes.

Technote

Three-fold higher bioactivity of Qkine animal-free CNTF

Our new product development is underpinned by our bioactivity guaranteed promise; all our proteins have equivalent bioactivity or are more bioactive than other major suppliers to ensure your results are reliable and reproducible every time. CNTF, essential for differentiation and maintenance of several neuronal, glial, and retinal cell types, is a good example where we have compared Qkine CNTF (Qk063) with CNTF from another major supplier and show the Qkine protein has a 3-fold lower EC50 in a quantitative reporter assay.

New product

Highly bioactive GM-CSF (Qk076)

GM-CSF is a cytokine that induces the development of myeloid, erythroid, and megakaryocytic cell lineages. Qkine GM-CSF is animal-free, highly pure, and has equivalent or better bioactivity than other suppliers to ensure reproducible results in your stem cell culture.
