Period Myths we should unlearn, immediately.
One of the biggest misconceptions about women’s hormonal health is that we actually don’t have a clue what it is and why we should focus on it.
This is a result of missing education about this topic at school and society as a whole making it an uncomfortable topic to speak about. It’s really a shame, because if you don’t have the right information about your hormones, how can you know for sure that your body is healthy and you are fertile?
Period Myths
There are a few period myths going around and I feel it’s important to address what is true and what is not. So to shed light on the upcoming Menstrual Health Day happening on the 28th of May, I want to clear up some Period Myths we should unlearn immediately!
Period myth 1: A healthy menstrual cycle lasts 28 days with 5 menstruation days.
Each woman is unique and so is her period. Women do experience the same four menstrual cycle phases: menstruation, follicular, ovulation, and luteal, but they experience them in their own way and in their own time.
The menstrual phase can last between 2 and 6 days. A healthy cycle length is on average between 21 - 36 days, and this can even change from month to month depending on how your hormones are reacting to stressors and influencers in your life. Think about work, nutrition, movement, and even relationships.
Period myth 2: PMS is normal and belongs to the period.
Most women have probably heard it at least once in their lives. “are you PMS’ing?” or “Must be that time of the month!”
Somehow society has made us think that women always get irritable or upset during the luteal phase (the phase right before menstruation) and that certain behaviors or bodily feels are actually common and completely normal.
This is wrong!
Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (PMS) has different signs and symptoms, including mood swings, cravings, irritability, breast soreness, headaches, and even depression. It has a huge impact on your body and your mind, and it is definitely not a made-up thing or a "normal" part of the period.
In fact..
PMS is a result of a hormonal imbalance. When hormones are out of sync, and estrogen can thrive, PMS symptoms rise to the surface as a result. Luckily, you can live a PMS-symptom-free life by restoring your hormones.
I advise you to join my new Masterclass Unlock the Secrets of Your Hormones to understand what hormonal imbalance triggers PMS and how you can heal your hormones naturally.

Period myth 3: Menstrual pain is normal, deal with it.
When the uterus lining starts to shed, the hormone prostaglandin is released to let the muscle contract so it can push the blood out of your womb. You'll notice this by feeling light cramps in your pelvis or back.
Thankfully there are a few things you can do to make yourself more comfortable when you experience period pain:
An important note: Although these noticeable cramps are common during the menstrual cycle, they shouldn’t be very painful or keep you away from living a normal life (being able to work, meeting friends, etc). Heavy and painful cramps are an indicator of a hormonal imbalance or could have an underlying medical health issue. I highly advise you to talk to a medical professional if you're dealing with heavy and painful menstrual cramps.
