Doc, thanks for taking one for the team. Some of your colleagues at Kwaai cannot be weaned off the decadent luxuries of running water, electricity, and broadband.

The Personal AI Greenfield is the latest in a collection of critique articles on the state of AI. Doc will be leading a session on this topic addressed to an audience of campers.

The industry is focused on building corporate AI to maximize the profits of already wealthy corporations. SaaS AI, vacuums up public and private information indiscriminately to build over-bloated models that can run only in their clouds. These hallucinating, privacy invading services don't necessarily serve the needs of their users.

Truly Personal AI

"If AI is to be truly uplifting for humanity, then let's apply it to solving the problem of individual humans first," said Reza Rassool the Kwaai Chair. Imagine a Personal Assistant that knows you intimately, that you own and operate, that makes you a better you. Of course, your PAI will have access to your most sensitive information, so you'd want to carefully maintain the privacy of that data and not expose it in prompts or context uploaded to a SaaS-AI. If your data is to remain local, then the processing needs to come down to Earth. This conclusion aligns with the Mozilla #localAI initiative.

Doc contrasted Personal vs. Personalized AI

Your Personal AI Assistant will make you a better you:

• a better consumer - your PAI will cast your intent, your immediate needs, negotiate with vendor systems via intent casting protocols such as IEEE P7012, BeckN, and other emerging demand-side interfaces;
• a better worker - less stressed by managing the complexities of domestic online services sucking up your time;
• a more engaged citizen - thanks to a Personal AI that is your machine assistant, representing your interests.

Trickle Up

And that 10x improvement that individuals will enjoy will grow the economy and accrue profits to corporations:

• through savings - no need to hoard customers' data, in vain hope to predict what they'll buy. Simply ask them or their PAI;
• through clearer intent signals - ubiquitous Personal AI will expand the demand side action in many more markets.
• localize supply - a mature intent casting network will by its nature signal real-time demand that is currently going unfulfilled. Local suppliers will be best placed to serve this pent up demand.

It sure as hell won't trickle down. It never has.
