Imagine this-you’re scrolling through the Internet, searching for digital marketing insights from a reputed source. The first page you see is filled with impactful marketing techniques & an in-depth analysis of current industry trends. The next page bombards you with lead-gen capturing e-books and a relentless stream of ‘‘limited-time marketing offers.’’ What is more likely to attract you? I think we know the answer.
Personal branding done right is akin to an art form. It helps you position yourself as an expert with authenticity and authority.Your audience understands what you’re offering has value. You don’t need to “sell” your wares.
1.Understanding your purpose
What do you stand for? It could be communicating a specific brand vision, supporting a specific cause, etc. Keep this in mind throughout the personal branding process.
One way you can do this is by creating a mind map. It helps you brainstorm ideas related to your brand vision, mission, target audience, impact, and differentiation. Tools like Coggle & MindMeister can help.
2.Defining your target audience
Determine who you’ll be talking to. Take a look at the current state of your industry and the age, location, and interests of your current audience.
Google Analytics is a great tool to help you understand your audience demographics and interests. Quora is another platform which helps you understand audience pain points or interests.
3.Showcasing your skills
It all boils down to how you intend to engage your audience. Do you want to show your expertise through your website? A tool like about.me can help you show brand details aesthetically. Do you want to talk about your skills on your LinkedIn profile? Ask yourself questions that help you pick the right platform.
Formulate a compelling content strategy: In a world where everyone is focused on content creation, it’s important to stand out. Here, you must formulate a compelling content strategy.
Pro tip: While you’re at it, don’t randomly choose content topics, this isn’t eeny, meeny, miny, moe.. Look up trending topics using Google Trends or SEO tools like Ubersuggest.
Remember: your content should be genuinely helpful for your audience. In simple terms: solve a problem.

Remember: To build and spearhead your own community, you must be a part of other communities first.
