Personality Development
Personality is the combination of characteristics or qualities that form an individual's distinctive character. Development is the process of developing or being developed. Personality development is nothing but the development of the combination of characteristics or qualities that form an individual’s distinctive character.
Personality is a combination of certain aspects of who you are and differentiates you from others. Whether it is work, home, party, tour, or elsewhere, your personality plays an important role. In modern times, a good personality reflects the sociable, expressive and enthusiastic side of a person.
A good Personality gives you:
- Improved confidence.
- Better self-image
- Enhanced communication skills
- Increased flexibility and adaptability to change and adjust in every situation
- Increased happiness and satisfaction
- Leadership qualities
- Improved presentation and convincing skills.
Since the list of benefits continues, we come to the conclusion that, if you have to survive in the modern day, you have to develop your personality. Now the question arises, how?
Let’s follow a simple introspection and self-analysis process.
- First, you need to accept yourself the way you are.
- Then it is the time to check, what impact your current personality is putting on your working and personal relationships.
- Such analysis will help you know the positives and negatives in your behavior.
- After analyzing it’s important to decide what you need to improve.
- Now, Get Set Go!
Well, this a long process. You can simply start by reading, writing and most importantly, by listening. Interact with people who think alike. Observe your body language and behavior while interacting. Identify your positive personality traits that strengthen your confidence, humility, determination, hard work, kindness, and openness. On the other side, it's important to know what traits to avoid. If necessary, go for a makeover. If you find anger, arrogance, hatred, resentment at a high level, you can even consult a psychologist. He can really tell you good meditating and refreshment techniques.
But remember one thing, you don’t have to force yourself for any change, the process should be natural. Don’t do it for impressing or just for the sake of making yourself better than others. As mentioned above, personality development or improving personality is a lengthy process, it will take time.
Let’s start.
1. Be Interactive: - It is important to make a good impression. You need to greet everyone with a smile and be mannerly. It is important when you meet someone to ask about him, instead of going about yourself. You have to also make sure that you keep your promises and become a helping hand for those in need. Continue doing these things, until they come up in you naturally.
2. Build conversational skills: - First of all, start reading any newspaper, magazine or journal every day. It is important to be updated and filled with knowledge. When in a discussion or debate, put your ideas, keep opinions and your point of view. Don’t show off, just put points! Another quality that a person with good personality always has is good listening skills. Be very careful when the other is speaking, make sure you listen and repeat what he/she has said. And one of the most important things, while in a conversation, avoid using phones, or any other gadget which distracts you and the other person who is talking to you.
3. Start enjoying life: - If you are happy, only then you can keep others happy. So, start enjoying life. Meet new people, build hobbies and do at least something for you daily. It is important to keep fit as well, so just exercise and meditate. Remember, enjoying life is not just for you, spend time with your family, and talk to yourself before going to bed or after getting up. It is just something which lets you know more about yourself.
4. Setting goals and objectives: - Your personality reflects you, your experiences and your ideas about life. You need to set goals in order to keep yourself in discipline and achieve what you want. It does not mean that you have to keep huge objectives. Group them up. Set priorities and make short term goals. Make action plans and try to fulfill them.
Personality development is something which goes with the flow. You have to continuously learn new skills, improve yourself and keep going. Don’t pretend, just do it for yourself and your loved ones!
