Phishing Scam Threatens to Disable Meta Business Pages

Have you received a suspicious email claiming your Meta Business Page is in violation of copyright and threatening account deactivation?

Beware of these phishing scams designed to steal your login credentials or infect your device with malware.

Key indicators of a phishing email:

  • Free email domain. Legitimate emails from Meta will come from a "@facebook.com" or "@meta.com" address.
  • Sense of urgency. Phishing emails often threaten immediate account suspension.
  • Suspicious links or attachments. Avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments.
  • Vague or generic information. The email might not mention the specific copyrighted material.

How to protect yourself:

  • Report the email to Meta. Forward the suspicious email to [email address removed].
  • Check for copyright claims within Business Manager.
  • Enable Two-Factor Authentication. This adds an extra layer of security.
  • Be wary of unsolicited contact. Meta primarily communicates through notifications within your Business Manager.

Additional Tips:

  • Be cautious of emails requesting personal information. Legitimate Meta representatives will never ask you for your password or other sensitive information via email.
  • Verify the sender's identity. If you're unsure about the legitimacy of an email, try contacting Meta Support directly through official channels within your Business Manager.
  • Keep your software and operating system up-to-date. Regularly update your devices to ensure they have the latest security patches.
  • Educate your team. Share this information with your employees to help them identify and avoid phishing scams.

Let's work together to safeguard our Meta accounts. Share this post to spread awareness.

Thanks for asking Lorna S. Bondoc. I hate scammers (they scammed the wrong person once). So now, I am working on initiatives with both businesses and regulators so companies are given tools to efficiently remove phishing that impersonates them. SaaS for monitoring with compliance tech for takedowns. Think education and awareness is useful. Responsibility and accountability on the business-front would also help though

Lorna S. Bondoc good message! It’s unfortunate businesses don’t do enough to prevent this and consumers are left having to fend for themselves
