PIAM success curry

It is been some time now that we are on to such transition curve that industry, Business leaders, Colleagues, stake holders expect everything to be digitized , automated , synchronized , connected and seamless . The Physical protection system is no exception here. The day today win of operations team would depend not only on their dexterity but also how they use multiple platforms to their advantage.  Let’s discuss on what it takes to be effective and how to cook a great PIAM success curry ….what should we do to make it successful and effective as a system owner and if you are someone in PIAM business what is least expected from you as solution provider.

a)      Definable flow of process – The PIAM platform should be such that it incorporates process flow as per requirement it should be flexible to manage the needs.

b)      Change management – The transition should be easy and should not cause jitters to user and system owners, to be to the point the transition should not be in a mess.

c)       Legacy management – in any organization there would be some system which is ageing but due to careful and diligent management they may be working in fine health and organization may be reluctant to change it upfront hence it needs to manage legacy systems with velvet glove.

d)      Too costly – The PIAM platform doesn’t need to cost you the moon, and if it is the choice should be otherwise. The PIAM platform is just another part of entire system and should not cost exorbitant to destabilize the operational budget .

e)      User friendly – The PIAM platform should be user friendly and should not require set of scientists to run it. The operators and administrators should be able to manage it as part of their day today job.

f)        Fail over strategy – As PIAM connects multiple platforms hence chances of failure in any one of the sub system can not be denied hence it should always have robust Fail over strategy which may be for network, sub systems, hardware or for that matter even power.

g)       Regulatory compliance – Most of the organizations who would go for PIAM would be amongst global organization and hence it should have careful consideration for Regulatory compliance across multiple geographies and countries.

h)      Data integration – Data is the evaporable gold, as the name suggests it is gold and hence the data integrity stands at the top of the pyramid. If PIAM platform doesn’t guarantee ,then it is just data collection ground for some one else and you are sitting on clicking time bomb!!!

i)         Data extraction – PIAM should be able to provide data on the go due to criticality of the systems , as it deals with access records, one may need it during crunch times so it should not take more than reasonable time for data extraction and should be able to provide meaningful true data every single time .

j)        Dependable platform – your PIAM platform should be able to handle stress and regular stress testing for it is a must. PIAM platform should always stand tall on CIA requirements and should deliver all three parameters as defined in seamless manner.

As said earlier PIAM is 2.0 of access control and would lead us to future, if the curry is well cooked it would serve wow moments every single time…..
