Ping...
Ping…here goes the sound of my WhatsApp notification alarming me to check my messages... Yeyyy…
Ahhh…a message from Denise :) Hmm, I haven’t heard from her in a while…That’s a surprise…I wonder what’s the message all about…
OK, so she wants me to join some WhatsApp group. Gosh!!! As if I need more groups to join.
Sure…why not??? One more group ain't gonna hurt. Anyways, if I can handle 12 groups, I’m pretty sure I can handle the thirteenth one as well…Yikes…what am I thinking!
So, congratulations to me…I am now a member of a new WhatsApp group…Hurrahhh
Two hours later, the first message on that new group pops up.
“Please introduce yourselves so that we can have an idea of who you are before our zoom meeting takes place tonight.”
And all of a sudden, one ping after another…97 members so far, all racing to post and boast who they are.
Impressive introductions indeed! One list after another of all kinds of titles, credentials, and achievements.
I was so overwhelmed; I didn’t know what to post about myself. So I just posted my name and the name of my company I represent.
But this is not the story of my article…
My story starts now :)
As I was going through one introduction after another, some short and some wayyy too long, the “What-How-Why” concept, by Simon Sinek, popped up all of a sudden into my mind. Sinek calls such a concept “The Golden Circle.”
So, what is this “What-How-Why” concept all about?
Simon Sinek claims that if you ask anyone in the world “what” they do, no one would have a problem answering such a question. That’s the easiest. We all know what we do and we all have the capability to easily introduce ourselves.
When you ask “how” they do what they do...some, not all, will have an idea of “how” things, that they are responsible for, are done. As you can tell, it's now getting more complicated to express yourself in the "how" you do what you do.
Now, here's the biggie. When you ask “why” they do what they do, very few people will have an answer to such a question, believe it or not.
Now, it’s very important to understand that what Simon Sinek is addressing here when we attempt to answer the “why” question, is not about making money! Making money is only a result, by the way! It’s always a result. The “why” here is all about your purpose, your cause, and your beliefs in what you're doing…or, from an organizational perspective, it’s all about “why” your organization exists…
Have you ever thought about your “why?” Have you ever thought about “why” you get out of bed in the morning?”
Going back to my WhatsApp group, and in order to be fair, yes, I do understand that the group administrator was only asking us, all 97 members, to introduce ourselves for the sake of introduction; and yes, I do understand that at this stage no further information is required...
But, the question is, if we were ever asked the “how” and more importantly the “why” question later on, are we going to be as fast in answering such questions as we did, when we all were so quick in answering the “what” question? I wonder how many of us, 97 members, will be posting their “why” answer, eventually.
Put yourself to the test and answer your “why” question...and have a blessed day :)

4yWhy? Because the sky is high? It is always the passion behind the “why” and if not, then there is no real answer to “what” and “how” Thanks Samir!
