Plan H in your Writer's Alphabet
Plan H like its namesake, Helium, is the lightest plan,
It asks you to rise above the fray and get a wider perspective on your horizon.
You rise high as if carried adrift in a helium blimp or a hot air balloon.
As you rise, you see more of the total landscape you couldn’t see when planted firmly on the ground.
Plan H allows you to take a loftier view of your subject.
It can be humbling as well as empowering to be able to see far ahead and beyond where you’re at.
You might even see the curvature of the Earth.
There’s another Plan H… Instead of rising in your body and mind, your writer’s voice rises to a much higher pitch, as if you’re speaking into a stream of helium. Your voice comes out as if from another person or creature.
So this version of Plan H allows you to write in a strange and even comical way.
You write in a lighthearted voice that can be funny or strange. That’s up to you.
These two versions of Plan H can help whenever you need to rise above the fray or speak in a different voice.
It’s always your choice.
We'll introduce Plan I two days from today.
Meanwhile, rise high, get a wider perspective, and write what you see.
